2. I believe this was on CBS News tonight.
It was mentioned as an aside in Dan Rather's report from Iraq.

3. Was there an earlier bomb fatality?
I was listening to BBC last night and heard mention of a single roadside bomb fatality. Just wondering if this was the same incident.

26. Its way too much ...
Many people feel that its unpatriotic to criticize the U.S. foreign policy especially if troops are involved.

I suppose they feel that it somehow aids the enemy: 'either you're for us or with them'.

For many people a strong USA translates into military dominance. To them it would make America look like a coward if we left immediately.

The media is playing a big role in this fiasco as well. They really don't do investigative journalism anymore and rely on what the Defense Department tells 'em for their news -- its a lot cheaper that way.

A lot of people see the cost of 555 lives outweighting the benefits - control of the largest oil reserves. If 555 American GIs died 'liberating' Haiti you would see outrage.

However, there are hopeful signs: More Americans are beginning to say in public opinion polls that 'the war was not worth it'.

The Mari333s, parents and spouses with loved ones in Iraq are helping to make a difference even if the press/ and gov't pretends not to hear you.

Keep speaking out; they're listening!

I stand in solidarity with you!

BRING THE TROOPS HOME NOW!

7. Looks like a separate attack from the earlier report today
This one's in Habbaniyah, the earlier one in Baquba. Could be confusion, though.

14. Thanks Mari333
I know your great personal concern. My dad has only recently divulged what a hell my tour in Vietnam was for them. He was a WIA and POW in WWII, too. My prayers are with you, dear.

Also, thanks for the links. Exactly what I need!

20. How about 558
large rectangular boxes covered with US flags for the March 20 protest? Have them paraded by The pig farm and the Capitol as far as the eye can see. That might get some people's attention.

17. The casualty roster is appalling
Hard to believe that anyone thinks its getting better over there.

Police, soldiers, translators, civilian personnel, shootings, bombings, ambushes, errant mortar rounds...this is getting better?

McCain has a few screws loose.

21. I sent his "unit" a CARE package, today,...
,...hope it will get through with no return address.

The touch and go blogs I've captured from time and time report,...well, desperation and anger.

Of course, the "facts" on that ground are obviously heavily screened from what we are being provided.

29. Military mail has always sucked.
Military mail is to mail

As military music is to music

As military justice is to justice

My dad in WW 2 said the same thing

In Nam we said the same thing

I see nothing has changed

23. There is no doubt that his email is monitored
It is standard procedure to monitor mail since, well, let's say the Civil War. In WWI, when the british soldiers would be moved into the horrendous Ypres Salient, they'd write letters saying "I pray Sally went to school as expected," knowing that Ipraysally went would signal Ypres Salient to their families. Needless to say, the officers soon put an end to the dear sister Sally letters.

Abu Ghaireb, of course, comes under mortar fire from time to time, but I think your stepson is mostly safe. I'm keeping a vigil for the brother, in any case. Keep your head up, Mari.

Of course, the dead are dismissed by the morans almost as fast as the wounded ones are (what's a arm or a leg less...) Have I told you lately how much I hate these people? :(

22. Proud to be a Democrat the party that gives a damn about the troops
You know I can't stop listening to Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon". The lyrics that really come home are "remember Charlie remember Baker they left their childhood on every acre". We have all these good people dead-many wounded-what horrors some will have to deal with years after the conflict- in drinking, despair and post-traumatic stress. The GOP just uses the flag-then forgets the soldiers-how cowardly to hide their deaths and wounds-it is so disgusting-I agree where is the outrage?- that our government started a war on the bogus reasons and now we can't even look at the result our policy has wrought-God Bless the fallen and wounded-may the democratic party when it returns to power in Nov undue the disaster and renew our faith in the USA

24. Another from Wisconsin Dead today--SAD
"They never saw what napalm does do a little girl's skin. They never saw a 19-year-old from Iowa screaming and writhing on the ground because a mine blew his legs off. They never saw a man take a bullet through the brain, then watch his body flop around on the ground for a minute or so because it doesn't realize he's dead. They never put pieces of someone into a bag, not knowing who it was until you read the tags, because there wasn't any face left to go along with the other parts. They haven't seen the shit I've seen, and they want to do it all over again. Those bastards!
