Sarah Palin receives $1.25M for ‘Going Rogue’
Source: MSNBC/AP

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin reports she received $1.25 million as a retainer for her upcoming book "Going Rogue."

The former Alaska governor says in her financial disclosure statement released Tuesday that she received the money from publisher HarperCollins.

Palin, the former GOP vice presidential candidate, resigned in July. She kept a fairly low profile as she worked with her book's ghostwriter.

"Going Rogue" catapulted to No. 1 on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com after HarperCollins announced in late September it had moved up the release date of 1.5 million copies from spring to Nov. 17.

The book is currently listed at No. 6 on Amazon.com and No. 11 on Barnes & Noble.com.

6. I ran across rogue in the dictionary
while doing a crossword puzzle last night. We can add:

to uproot or destroy that which does not conform to a desired standard.

But she does have conservative values.

3. Mencken was right
I hear there's going to be a special section at the end, sort of a quiz for Ms. Palin's loyallest readers.

Sample question:

Complete this well-known phrase: A __________ and his _______________ are soon parted.

21. Your math is seriously off
Authors don't get the price of a book, just a small fraction. I have no idea what Palin's cut is but it wouldn't be more than 5%-10%.

27. standard hardcover royalty would be 12 - 15% of cover price
So that's about 3 bucks a copy. And then it will go to paperback, where she'll get about 10 - 12% royalty, so that's about a buck a copy.

I suspect she's going to sell pretty well, even if only her fan base buys it. There's got to be at least 300,000 Palin die-hards who won't mind shelling out $25 each for their queen's cast-offs.

28. Your Sense of Perspective Is Not Sufficiently Sarcastic
They sent her the royalties in actual books. They didn't get any money for them, so they sent her the books to sell, or build hunting lodge with, or burn for heat.

Or that's what I would do, if some subordinate had stuck my company with such a dog....

18. It sounds like a lot of money
It really isn't though, at least in comparison to what Newt Gingrich got in 1995 ($4.5 million), or what Hillary Clinton got in 2000 ($8 million).

If you're famous and can get someone to write a book for you, you've got it made.

Retainer? I work in publishing and have never heard that term used.

As for the amount, it's really not all that much, considering her notoriety and the rabid fans she has. 1.25 million is quite a bit less than I would have expected her to get.

35. Yeah, Amazon has it listed at $9.00 down from $28.00 and at townhall.com
they are listing it as being given away to attendees at the latest teabagger gala, which according to Bill Maher, is going to be low attended and held at gyms, parks, parking lots, etc, lol. I have no intention of reading it myself, even in used form. I'm afraid my eyes might start bleeding.
