New Republican Party site crashes hours after launch
Source: Christian Science Monitor

Michael Steele said that GOP.com would rival social networking efforts undertaken by the Democrats. But on Tuesday, the site was plagued by bugs and glitches.

By Matthew Shaer | 10.13.09

There’s a metaphor lurking in here somewhere. The same day GOP Chairman Michael Steele unveiled a new online home for the Republican Party, the website apparently crashed, leaving users unable to log on to GOP.com.

The site was meant to rival the digital operation run by the Democrats and President Barack Obama, who used social networking to great effect in the 2008 elections. GOP.com has a YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr presence, and an array of blogs, including the “What Up” blog, which will be penned by Steele himself.

takes advantage of various online tools to connect Republicans and concerned Americans across the country to each other and party leaders, creating a larger, more informed, more organized, and more energized Republican community,” Steele told the Associated Press today.

But early this afternoon, bloggers had found a mass of bugs and glitches, including repeated php problems. By 3:30 p.m. EDT, GOP.com slowed to a crawl, eventually shutting out users. The official cause? A network error.

Nicholas Lemann, in Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War, described Pinchback as "an outsized figure: newspaper publisher, gambler, orator, speculator, dandy, mountebank – served for a few months as the state's Governor and claimed seats in both houses of Congress following disputed elections but could not persuade the members of either to seat him."<1>

28. LOL
So they are claiming a civil-war era black Republican to be on their side.

The guy was third in line for the governorship and managed to reach office by succession with 35 days remaining in his term.

Do you know when we had the first black senators? Right after the civil war. In Mississippi, of all places. Two of em. They were Republicans, of course, which meant they were on our side.

It was EIGHTY SIX YEARS before another African American was elected to the senate. The incipient KKK and similar movements were a powerful force, after the dust settled. Strong enough to ensure that blacks were kept the hell out of government in the south. The north didn't employ slaves on the same scale that the south did, but racism was rampant and open, so no blacks would be elected in the north, where they were a much smaller minority.

29. Did they remove Steele as Clippy walk on and his 'What Up?'
Supposedly when you first went to the site he walked on and greeted but now nada.

RNC’s New Website Reflecting Steele’s ‘Urban-Suburban Hip-Hop’ Riddled With Errors, Widely Panned

The Republican National Committee (RNC) proudly launched its new website at GOP.com today, saying that it “will promote increased grassroots participation and innovation, better communication, improved platform compatibility and smarter marketing and fundraising tools for the GOP.” When a visitor goes to the site, the first thing he or she sees is a miniature floating Michael Steele walking onto the page with a greeting (similar in style to the old Microsoft Word Office Assistant)

The RNC press release announcing the site highlighted its widgets, tie-ins to other social media networks, and open platform. But here are the real highlights of the site (which is being widely mocked):

– Michael Steele’s Blog Called ‘What Up?’: In his first post, titled “Let me ask you,” Steele talks about how he finds the Internet an “amazing platform” for “life.”

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/10/13/rnc-new-website/

I also can't find the comedy gold that is his blog 'What Up?'.
