Dick Armey leading rally in Atlanta today. "15K expected"
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 12:36 PM by CurtEastPoint
Source: Atlanta Journal/Constitution

Opponents are hoping to make the rally at Centennial Olympic Park the nation’s largest gathering in protest of the reform efforts. Organizers have tapped into some 20 national and local groups and expect to draw 15,000 people to the event, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

...

Virginia Galloway, the interim state director for Americans for Prosperity, a national group that advocates limited government and free markets, said metro Atlanta is a perfect place to draw big numbers against the proposals.

She pointed to Georgia’s strong conservative base and the state’s proven ability to draw masses to similar issue-oriented rallies. Several of the groups involved with the park rally organized the Tea Party at the state Capitol in April, which drew more than 7,000 people to protest the Obama administration’s spending to stimulate the economy.

The keynote speaker at Centennial Olympic Park will be former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, who fought Hillary Clinton’s earlier efforts on health care reform.

As a retired member of Congress, he has lifetime health plan coverage.

Anyone want to bet he hasn't turned it down?

45. exactly-someone should go there & ask why he is still using gov health
coverage? Obama should just pass it, OHA the "Obama Healthcare Act" & then tell everyone that Republicans will automatically be opted out but if they change their minds they can later opt in. The Right can track who's registered as what & so can the general government, so have those registered Democratic automatically opted in, with those under 18 &/or not registered(or Independent)send a letter, letting the parents/guardians/person then decide whether to opt in or out.

She has worked for Marilyn Quayle and Sonny Perdue. That says it all about what Karen really is right there. She is a neighbor of mine, but no matter what she did as Fulton County Commis, I would never vote for her. All she wants to do is keep moving up and plans her next job conquest before doing a job she was just elected to do. She's a smart Sarah Palin.

Each time, I'd call mom in the suburbs: "Is this on any major news channel? There's like, 250-300,000 of us here. This thing's going for blocks and blocks."

Mom: "Nope . . . there was like, 20 seconds of it on a local news channel. I tried to see if we saw you, but there were too many people."

Telling you . . . the corporatists learned their lessons from the 60s, where they televised cops beating kids for the world to see. If it ain't on TV . . . it never really happened, and that's that. Pigs.

37. Brought to you by FreedomWorks' Corporate Sponsors
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/04/14/lobbying-clients-teaparties/br%20/[br />
FreedomWorks Orchestrates ‘Grassroots’ Movements To Serve Dick Armey’s Corporate Clients

ThinkProgress reported last week that corporate lobbyists are helping to orchestrate the anti-Obama tea party protests. These lobbying-run front groups, along with promotion help from Fox News, are organizing the tea parties by calling right-wing activists and asking them to organize. They are also coordinating conference calls among activists, writing press releases, providing sign ideas, building websites supporting the protests, and distributing talking points so that the protesters can stay on message.

Today, FreedomWork’s Adam Brandon responded to the criticism that its efforts to organize these anti-Obama protests are ‘astroturf,’ saying that the organization’s work in coordinating and planning the events would be akin to “MoveOn’s model.” However, MoveOn is not run by corporate lobbyists and is funded by actual grassroots activists. On the other hand, the leader of FreedomWorks, Dick Armey, who is ranked as one of DC’s top “hired guns,” is a corporate lobbyist with a history of directing FreedomWorks to support the goals of his lobbying clients. For example:

• Armey’s FreedomWorks is actively organizing against health care reform. Indeed, Armey’s lobbying firm represents pharmaceutical companies, such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, that oppose comparative effectiveness research in the health reform plan because such a program may cut into revenue for branded drugs.

• Armey’s lobbying firm represents the trade group for the life insurance industry. Indeed, FreedomWorks mobilizes its members for deregulated life insurance reform.

==snip==

Last year, the Wall Street Journal exposed FreedomWorks for building “amateur-looking” websites to promote the lobbying interests of Armey.

FreedomWorks represents a top-down, corporate-friendly approach that has been the norm for conservative organizations for years. As Obama prepares to push to close corporate tax loopholes, reform health care, and transition to a clean energy economy, we can expect more corporate lobbyists to create astroturf protests to oppose change.

59. An anti-socialist terrorist
Eric Rudolph would certainly stand with the teabaggers. A quote from him, taken from wikipedia:

"In the summer of 1996, the world converged upon Atlanta for the Olympic Games. Under the protection and auspices of the regime in Washington millions of people came to celebrate the ideals of global socialism. Multinational corporations spent billions of dollars, and Washington organized an army of security to protect these best of all games. Even though the conception and purpose of the so-called Olympic movement is to promote the values of global socialism, as perfectly expressed in the song Imagine by John Lennon, which was the theme of the 1996 Games even though the purpose of the Olympics is to promote these despicable ideals, the purpose of the attack on July 27 was to confound, anger and embarrass the Washington government in the eyes of the world for its abominable sanctioning of abortion on demand."

"The plan was to force the cancellation of the Games, or at least create a state of insecurity to empty the streets around the venues and thereby eat into the vast amounts of money invested."

Murdering right-wing terrorist Eric Rudolph
