Fight at state prison in Tucson injures officers, inmates

Three inmates and nine corrections officers were injured this morning when a
fight broke out between Mexican-American and Mexican national inmates, officials said.

The state prison, located on Wilmot Road, is on lockdown while the cause of the fight
is under investigation.

At about 7:20 a.m., the inmates began fighting in the dining hall and went out into t
he recreation field, according to Bill Lamoreaux, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Officers used pepper spray on inmates in the dining hall.
