Senator says Obama 'got nerve' to push lawmakers
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley says that President Barack Obama "got nerve" to go sightseeing in Paris while telling lawmakers it's time to deliver on a health care overhaul.

Grassley, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, is key to any bipartisan health care deal. Using Twitter — the Internet-based social connection service allows users to send mass text messages called "tweets" — the Iowa Republican issued two angry "tweets" Sunday morning as the president wrapped up an overseas tour.

For months Obama had left the details of health care legislation to Congress, then inserted himself firmly into the debate in recent days, including using his weekly radio address Saturday to declare "it's time to deliver" on health reform.

Grassley's first tweet: "Pres Obama you got nerve while u sightseeing in Paris to tell us 'time to deliver' on health care. We still on skedul/even workinWKEND."

A short time later: "Pres Obama while u sightseeing in Paris u said 'time to delivr on healthcare' When you are a 'hammer' u think evrything is NAIL I'm no NAIL."

Edited on Sun Jun-07-09 09:48 PM by AlbertCat
No he's not. WE'RE his boss....and the president's.

This "the President's the boss" crap is a leftover of Right Wing thinking from the Bush Years. Get a grip people. The 3 branches of government are SEPARATE and EQUAL.
The president cannot just tell Congress what to do. For several years we had the Vice President telling a rubber stamp Congress what to do and it worked out great, didn't it?

5. Obama should have remembered his own call for bipartisanship.
He should have told the democrats to deliver on health care and told the republicans they're Unpatriotic and Unamerican if they don't deliver on health care because terrorist diseases are trying to kill Americans. That way everyone is on the same page.

I would have thought by the age of 75 and being in politics he'd be a bit more mature and diplomatic... apparently not. :eyes:

Last time I checked Obama was there for a very good diplomatic reason. There's no reason he shouldn't do a bit of sightseeing when he has a few moments of downtime. Honestly how many vacations did Bush take again?

24. No but....
His wife and daugters are remaining in Paris to "do a little shopping." Which means two planes were sent to Paris. One of them just so they could "do a little shopping." Which means the taxpayers paid for two planes and two round trips to Paris for the Obamas. Just so they could "do a little shopping." On the heels of the "date" in New York.

Perhaps shopping for more $540 Lanvin sneakers at a discount that can be sneaked in without paying duty? Maybe some Lanvin gowns at a discount?

Obviously the first lady doesn't make a pit stop through customs like the rest of us.

The Obamas as consummate consumers. Really beginning to leave a bad taste in the mouth as they say.

28. Looking hard for something to be outraged about I see.
Never mind that they said they will reimburse the government for any non-government related expenses. That means the plane to fly Michelle and the kids, the hotel stay, and any goods purchases.

They also will reimburse for the New York date.

However, don't let that stop you from complaining that President Obama is a greedy capitalist consumer.

31. Nancy Reagan said a lot of things too..
Edited on Sun Jun-07-09 06:19 PM by Baby Snooks
When the IRS nailed her for not declaring borrowed gowns she kept Nancy Reagan said a lot of things. No one knows if she returned the gowns or returned the gowns and then had them shipped on to Los Angeles later and just simply didn't tell the IRS she kept them. Plus some jewelry. Plus some this. And some that. Quite a bit of this and that.

This isn't just about the Obamas. Congress rips us off as well. I have yet to see the media or any of the "watchdogs" really tally it all up but I bet if they did there would be few Americans regardless of political affiliation who would be happy with it any more than than they were with the matter of the "pork barrel" which is still a nice little barrel that benefits the politicians because it benefits their major supporters in most cases. Billions of our tax dollars. While millions do without. Some without food. Some without homes.

I look forward to seeing the copy of the check the Obamas send in to reimburse the government.

36. And Nancy Reagan and Michelle Obama have so much in common! Why, they could be twins!
Edited on Sun Jun-07-09 06:36 PM by Moonwalk
I can so see why you're comparing the two. Or, were you comparing Barak to Nancy? They, also, are very much alike, I sometimes can't tell them apart. I mean, the way Nancy lived her life before she got into the White House is a carbon copy of how Barak Obama lived his up till he got there. Their values do seem very similar. Surely, we can use Nancy as an accurate barometer of what Obama will do when he promises to repay the government for such things. Yes, indeed, we can compare that apple to that orange. Makes perfect sense not to trust the one now because the other fibbed so badly back in the 80's....

If you go to his site and do a search it talks about attending a TweetUp and meeting others who use Twitter.

Apparently he's quite proud of the fact that he Twitters (and has since Nov 2007). Here are a couple of articles from March and April of this year where he (and a few others) talk about being high tech/techno-savvy:
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2798&u_sid=10587016
http://www.gazetteonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090403/NEWS/704039936/1002/NEWS

Considering his political opinions, it's probably his only positive as far as I'm concerned. ;)
