Congress begins impeachment of Judge Kent
Source: Houston Chronicle

By STEWART M. POWELL

WASHINGTON — In some of the most graphic public testimony they have offered — and in the halls of Congress where they hope to see their former boss impeached — two federal employees Wednesday recounted years of courthouse assaults and unwanted sexual encounters at the hands of a United States judge.

For years, Cathy McBroom and Donna Wilkerson stayed silent as an often intoxicated U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent cornered them to inflict unwanted kissing, groping and occasionally furtive sexual touching, they said.

Members of the House Judiciary Committee sat glued to vivid, sometimes emotional testimony from the two victims, who eventually braved potential risks to their jobs and reputations to come forward with the truth in Texas and now before Congress.

On Wednesday, Congress started fast-track impeachment proceedings against Kent, galvanized by his bid to keep a $174,000 annual paycheck in prison and his predatory behavior toward his female employees.

3. Agreed, however....
This isn't a lifetime pension. He doesn't deserve a penny of it (and won't see much of it if they impeach him), but worst case is he only gets this pension for a year.

7. Considering the "they" in question IS Congress, I'd say never. Remember, this is
the same Congress that gives themselves pay raises.

5. They need to impeach the Seigelman judge. It is time for Holder
to quit stalling on Seigelman; it must have to do with Rove's involvement. Obama is running scared of Bushista. I guess the illegal wiretapping must have worked.

8. sexual harassment = impeachment
lying to try to somehow justify illegal wars, torture, violations of the bill of rights =/= impeachment.

Your tax dollars at work.

Now I just wish this philosophy was also held by the justice department. Time they stop prosecuting murderers and go after some shop lifters.

(and before some moran flips out, no, I'm not justifying sexual harassment)

9. Having read the story, not only do I believe he should be impeached...
but his attorney should be disbarred. it is one thing to defend someone, it is something entirely different to thumb your nose at the process that convicted this "judge". There is NO justification for this man to receive his salary, he is a convicted felon on the Federal payroll...if anything, he should reimburse the people of this nation for his disgraceful "performance". Drunk, fondling insubordinates...what else did he do that we know nothing of?

Impeachment in this instance is easy, in 24 hrs all of the charges could be in place in the House, and later in the day, or the next day, a trial in the Senate...conviction on impeachment charges, no more pay, and he can serve out his time in the disgrace he so richly deserves. Justice can move swiftly...if there are spines in Congress.

11. Why would you disbar his attorney?
For doing his job? It would be legal malpractice to participate in these hearings. From a legal standpoint he did exactly the correct thing.

13. It was the statement about the House not bringing charges for
impeachment that got to me...and yes, disbarrment would be over the top. There is nothing in any state that says a lawyer can't be an arrogant goomer...in fact, it often pauys off for the accused/convicted, (as well as the lawyer).

The man was doing his job, near as I can figure, he sisn't do anything unethical or ollegal...my bad, just the heat of the moment...:hi:
