Abortion foes fear backlash to Tiller's murder
Source: AP/Yahoo

*if it it smells like pre-emptive spin and browbeating to hold off the wolves, it probably is*

NEW YORK – Anti-abortion leaders voiced concern Sunday that the Obama administration and other Democrats may try to capitalize on the murder of Dr. George Tiller to defuse the abortion issue in upcoming Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

Many anti-abortion groups condemned the killing of Tiller, a prominent abortion provider who was shot dead at his church in Wichita, Kan. But they expressed concern that abortion-rights activists would use the occasion to brand the entire anti-abortion movement as extremist.

They also worried that there would now be an effort to stifle anti-abortion viewpoints during questioning of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Her exact views on abortion aren't known, but conservatives fear she supports abortion rights.

According to the National Abortion Federation, Tiller was the eighth U.S. abortion provider murdered since 1977, and 17 others had been targeted with attempted murder.

I urge you to comment but would rather someone download the video for use if they should pull it. Showing the type of elements that are on the pro-life side makes their arguments of Christian values and loving the sinner and not the sin, etc completely moot.

45. Thanks for your other post.
I'm beyond outraged by this long line of hate crimes and domestic terrorism that is indulged by the media as "isolated" events or otherwise excused because these murderous acts were "just committed" by right wing "Christian freedom fighters" otherwise known as domestic terrorists. In my opinion, the media thinks that these terrorists deserve a seat at the table so we can see "both sides" even when one side is a murderous terrorist organization, known by the media as Randell Terry et al's "Pro-Life Christians"tm and the other is side is deemed "controversial" because they are working by doing public health service within the rule of law. *

*I'm a Christian who believes that post birth children need care and nurturing. I'm not a fetus fetishist. I'm a Christian who thinks that these terrorists need to keep their ideology out of my doctor's office.

23. So let me get this straight
One of their own, spurred on no doubt by the extremist language used by the likes of Randall Terry, kills a dedicated and brave doctor in cold blood. And it's now the fault of the pro-choice people in the country somehow? If we mention the victim or the crime, we're exaggerating this for political reasons, right?

They're so twisted. And I don't mean that in a good way.

28. Where are the FBI infiltrators when there are real terrorists?
Well, NSA has all of his electronic contacts since 2001, or do they?

Everybody he associated with in the last 8 years can be rendered to Gitmo and interrogated. The sources of income of any groups the shooter was a member of can be frozen and the principle parties of the groups can be incarcerated for supporting terroristic activities. I would guess that would cover both Religious and Political groups as it has in the past.

and this crime is a 'hate crime.' They should be treated, by the Feds, as full-blown terrorists. Randall Terry should be arrested as an accomplice.

To make the point, we need peaceful demonstrations in front of this guy's home, the schools where his kids or grandkids attend, his place of employment, all his friends and relatives, his church, his pastor's home and so on.

Enough of this slaughter.

50. The Left and Obama pushed people just too far!!!!
Edited on Sun May-31-09 09:39 PM by get the red out
That will be the apologist's creed by tomorrow. They will say the left and Obama have just gone too far outside the "mainstream" on abortion and that is why this tragedy has happened, not that they condone it (wink - nod).

That line of thinking will bubble up from Michael Savage or maybe even Rush through some carefully chosen callers and/or innuendo. Then it will surface as some kind of opposition point on more mainstream shows until (if it goes the right's way) you almost get to the point that you forget a murder actually ever took place. And "terrorist" will never be mentioned (because you can't be a Christian and a terrorist, only Muslim's are terrorists, we all know that!).

But then if we go after these people, make the media respond to reality for a change, maybe they won't own the talk.

55. These scum are years overdue for some SERIOUS backlash
The abortion debate first turned deadly in 1993, when Dr. David Gunn was shot and killed by an anti-abortion zealot in Pensacola, FL. In addition, twelve arsons, one bombing, and 66 blockades were carried out against abortion clinics during that year.

http://www.prochoice.org/about_abortion/violence/FACE_act.html

Now just what do you think would happen if 12 churches or schools were burned down by fanatics in one year?

The abortion "debate" has always been weirdly one-sided, and it is way past time the pro-choice side fought back, IMO. While few people will agree with me, I'm sure, my definition of "fight back" is the same one expressed by Malcolm X.

The anti-choicers (or as I like to call them, Women-Killers) have been having it their own way since 1973, and it has emboldened them.

I can't think of any other area of political dispute where I would NOT go to jail if I terrorized my opponents by picketing their homes, putting their addresses, pictures and CHILDREN's pictures on a web site, etc. etc.

Yet these sanctimonious assholes have been getting away with it for decades.

And I don't for a minute buy their bullshit press releases about Tiller's murder. "We're shocked and horrified..."

Really? You spend years soaking the area in gasoline, knowing good and well that eventually some nut will light a match. And then try to convince me you're "shocked?" My ass.

(For anyone wondering, I'm male. One of my favorite aunts barely survived an illegal abortion when she was a very young woman, so I tend to rant on this particular subject.)
