Officials: 2 Fla. sheriff's deputies fatally shot
Source: Associated Press

<snip>

"Two north Florida sheriff's deputies were shot and killed Saturday by a suspect who was later fatally shot by deputies, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. when the two Okaloosa County deputies went to Shoal River Sporting Clays and Shooting Center in response to a call, said Michele Nicholson, a sheriff's spokeswoman.

Authorities say the suspect shot both deputies and took off toward neighboring Walton County, where he was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies."

<snip>

"Deputies Burt Lopez and Deputy Warren "Skip" York were pronounced dead after being airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, about 45 miles away, the sheriff's office said.

A news release from the sheriff's office identified their killer as Joshua Cartwright, 28, of Fort Walton Beach."

2. So Sad.. this is what George Bush has wrought on the people...
.it's going to get worse as we head into the summer of hell....

The realiity is, the main stream media will not tell the truth, and our government lies to us.

American people are in the cross-hairs.. their ignorance and denial of the truth will be their downfall.

from the link. "Okaloosa County Sheriff Charles Morris was suspended by Gov. Charlie Crist in February after he was arrested by FBI agents while on a gambling trip to Las Vegas.

Morris and his former office manager were indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday on theft, money laundering and conspiracy charges. Prosecutors allege Morris and his former office manager, Teresa Adams, created fictitious bonuses for sheriff's department employees then pocketed some of the money."

6. What a shame - I live near Pittsburgh where we just buried
3 police officer two weeks ago. My sympathies to the families of the deputies.

Glad in a way that the police took out this piece of crap that shot them.

Joshua William Cartwright had a history of violence.

On Saturday, Cartwright killed two Okaloosa County Deputies, and then he was killed in a shootout with lawmen.
But his violent tendencies caught the eye of law enforcement and acquaintances well before then.

A former boss said Cartwright, 28, was fired from a job in 2006 because of allegations he had been beating a girlfriend. He also had a pending domestic violence battery charge from November 2008.

-----

Cartwright was fired from Barley's, not because of his work ethic while he was a bouncer, but because of complaints about his lifestyle outside of the bar.

"People were saying he beat girls," Burnell remembered.

If this guy legally owned guns - shame on Florida.

11. Shame on Florida is right, but "legally" owning guns has a whole other meaning
in Florida.

Remember this oldie but goody?

The Sun-Sentinel:

"Florida has given concealed weapon licenses to hundreds of people who wouldn't have a chance of getting them in most other states because of their criminal histories. Courts have found them responsible for assaults, burglaries, sexual battery, drug possession, child molestation -- even homicide.

In an investigation of the state's concealed weapon system, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel found those licensed to carry guns in the first half of 2006 included: More than 1,400 people who pleaded guilty or no contest to felonies but qualified because of a loophole in the law."

12. if he had protection orders out against him
then he was not owning the guns legally.

since it says his DV charge was pending, he may not have had a DV conviction, which would also disqualify him.

9. The range of incidents and variety of killers in all states suggest mental problems are a factor.
Given underfunded mental health programs and society unprepared for such problems this could be a bigger threat than swine or bird flu.
