Poll: Southerners favor * (Tallahassee Democrat)
http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/tallahassee/news/local/8033219.htm

Found this news story while surfing the web. Headline is a bit deceiving because if you read the story, it seems the shrub and Re-puritans lead in morals, but Dems have a shot at the economy.

Not really sure if this is breaking news though. The headline might as well say, "Iraqi's overwhelming re-elect Saddam", or "Fundamental Xtians Against Gay Marriage."

Typical dog bites man story. Anyway, it is nice to see that we don't have the support of the Confederacy.

1. Numbers don't look that good for *
<snip>
The poll of 802 voters conducted by the University of North Florida showed that 51 percent of Southern voters prefer Bush in a matchup against Kerry, who is the leading Democratic candidate for the presidential nomination. Kerry was preferred by 42 percent of respondents
</snip>

Only 51%? This is totally DUable folks.

If true, he is in trouble. Take out places like Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and South Carolina and what happens?

Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 03:04 PM by XanthaS
He IS desperate. But I'll bet you it backfires. He will gain few voters with it, and drive away even more.

from article:

Democrats led Republicans 43 percent to 40 percent when voters were asked who they trust more on economic issues. The difference falls within the poll's 3.5 percent margin of error.

But half the respondents named Democrats as the party that better represents working people while one-third named Republicans. And Democrats led Republicans 41 percent to 36 percent when voters were asked who helps the middle class more.

5. Especially when you look at the margin
of error and add in the "R-adjust" factor. With the numbers this close and a 3.5% margin of error, reduce the numbers by the standard 4 to 6 points, and this is a dead heat.

2. No, it is not nice to see that.
The idea should be to try to get them to see the repukes hurt them and voting for that party is not in their best interest.

The story actually shows the people polled are pretty evenly split and actually favor the Democrats for "working man" issues.

Please don't try to bash all Southerners especially at a time when they are suffering if not worse, just as bad as any other states and may well be ready for change.

South-bashing does not endear them to you.

First of all lots of POS assholes are sent to Washington from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Alaska, California, need I go on?

Secondly, a huge problem down here is voter registration and turnout. You cannot understand the poverty levels some people live in and voting is not on their mind. If even half of the poor folks down here voted, the south would turn Blue.

It was not like we won several southern states, and had a couple teetering on the brink! It was a complete and unadulterated swath of red through the entire south. If you had just come to this planet, you would have thought it was the Union and Confederate battle-lines.

Throughout this article; throughout this post; you hear people saying that "gee, the Democrats are much better on the economy." "They care more about the middle class". "They are the party of the average person", "but I think I'll vote re-puritan because "them's god fearing people they are" WTFO South?

6. I'm all for encouraging the South to secede --
even de Toqueville said it was fundamentally a different country. The idea that these people will determine the direction of my country is frightening. Note this:

"Democrats led Republicans 43 percent to 40 percent when voters were asked who they trust more on economic issues. The difference falls within the poll's 3.5 percent margin of error.
But half the respondents named Democrats as the party that better represents working people while one-third named Republicans. And Democrats led Republicans 41 percent to 36 percent when voters were asked who helps the middle class more."

So basically southerners will vote for Bush because he'll advance their cultural mores over their own economic interests. Southerners seem to think the federal government's job is advance their Christian evangelical view of the world and to make sure homosexuals don't sleep together.

Intelligent southerners should just move north and then we should agree to a divorce. The cultural divide between the North and West and the south is just too great -- irreconcilable differences big time.

Don't wimp out. Once upon a time, Americans were not afraid to fight for their country.

Clue: Not all Southerners are identical. Neither are all Northerners. Then there's the Great Liberal State of California--who gave us President Nixon, President Reagan & (if that amendment goes through) President Schwarzenegger.

But you don't have to take my word for it; let's go to the numbers.

The number of non-Southerners in the South today ought to throw most, if not all, of the Southern states to the Democrat, IF all those "superior" people who've moved here for the jobs voted Democratic.

And of course insulting people is such an effective way to win their votes.

If to win the south we have to S$#k Jerry Falwell's Clenis, or suck up to Ralph Reed, then I, for one, don't want to win the south.

22. Bush reappointed that asshole Greenspan...
And that is one tarbaby he can't get rid of. SS will hurt him nationwide. Taxcuts for the rich so we can cut benefits for old people? I don't think so!

I think the article shows Bush in trouble in the South. I have lived and worked down there, and I think the South is capable of changing their mind about Bush. For one thing, that bitch was born and went to school up North. He is a fake Texan. I would do some adds like that on his two-bit phony ass, and run them down there. I would also heavily push-poll down there on him being a goddamn deserter!

I don't think the gay marriage trick will work when people are paying 3 bucks a gallon for gasoline-but there's no inflation! Southerners hate a liar just like anyone else. Down there is where I heard, "if a man will lie, he will steal. If he will steal, he will kill". Bush is guilty of all that and more. Paint him as the phony he is, and name him a carpetbagger! That should do it.

40. Bush endorses Fed chief for 5th term
The chairman of the Fed serves a four-year term, while the term of a Fed governor is 14 years. Greenspan's term as a member of the seven-member Fed board runs until Jan. 31, 2006. Greenspan cannot be appointed for another term as a Fed board member, leading many analysts to believe that he will step down in early 2006 so the next president can appoint a successor before the election in 2008.

23. Some of these comments are why the Republicans have carried the South!
I know that this may come as a shock to some people from other part sof the country, but a lot of southeners -- including this southener -- are not slowmovin', slow thinkin', KKK lovin', gritseattin', truckdrivin', gunlovers that the media (and I'm sorry to say this but some members of this site) make us out to be. The Republican Party unfortunately has won the south because it has played upon the fears of a lot of southern whites (ala Willie Horton)

Many people in the area I live in (Central Florida - the I-4 Corridor) have already said that they are voting for the Democratic nominee -- whomever it is! Many companies in this area have been completely outsourced overseas to India. For instance, Stromberg-Carlson a branch of the Siemens Corporation in Lake Mary, Florida went from a payroll of over 3,000 down to less than 200. Most of the jobs have gone overseas. In less than 3 years!

This area was hit hard after 9/11 because unfortunately, we do not have a very diversified economy. Too many jobs are in the low-paying tourism or hospitality industry. Hotel occupancy are down dramatically and the theme parks are hurting.

These are the types of issues that people in this area care about.

Florida Democrats are champing at the bit to take on george bush. We don't want a replay of 2000 -- we want to win big.

29. Take it from a Floridian, the Tally Democrat is a right wing fish
wrapper! Don't be fooled by the name, its historically right bent. They have that old southern belle charm, you know, they smile and pour on the charm loaded up sweet as molasas, all the while they are insulting you, and you do not even notice until after they have left the room. Let me give you an example....

Scenario

Ok, here's the scene... A nice southern belle enters the bank (We'll call this southern belle, Lilly Ann). It's a hot summer day and Lilly Ann looks absolutely fabulous in a ankle length silk skirt and matching blouse of peach. Her white shoes click on the shiny slate floor of the bank and her neat little matching white purse hangs delicately from her wrist. Lilly Ann moves into the shortest line of two to await to make her transaction. She smiles sweetly at the gentleman to her left in the next line. She nods politely to the lady in the line to her right. Patiently Lilly Ann waits her turn... When suddenly a man steps into the line directly in front of her. Thus the dialogue from a proper southern belle...

Lilly Ann: Excuse me sir, but I do believe you have broken in line.

Man: Oh, I was here only moments ago. I stepped out of line to get a deposit slip.

Lilly Ann: True as that may be sir, you will have to return to the back of the line.

Man: But mam' as I told you, this was my place in line.

Lilly Ann: But sir, as I stated, true as that may be you will absolutely have to return to the end of this line!

Man: I have no intention of returning....

Lilly Ann: *interrupting* Oh yes sir, I can absolutely assure you that you WILL return to the end of this line and you will return immediately! Just who do you think you are to so rudely intrude into this line ahead of me and the nice people behind me *several people now behind Lilly Ann* Do you dare to think that my time is less important than yours, and that you have the right to just break in line and further delay my transaction. MY time is just as important, if not more so, than yours sir! You have some more nerve to possibly think that you can break ahead of me and get away with it! Why the audacity of you revolts me. Obviously your mother never taught you any manners! You sir are the epitomy of a mangy dog running loose on main street that urinates on bushes in plain view! You have no manners, are obviously suffering from some kind of delusional state of selfishness that borders on insanity and you are without a doubt getting on my last nerve! Sir, excuse yourself to the end of this line immediately! *sweet smile* And have a good day sir!

Man: *Smiles back, shrugs and goes to the end of the line* You have a great day too 'mam'!

Ok... so do you get it now??? This man has been properly chastised and has returned to the end of the line, not even realizing he's been 'put in his proper place'.

Let's replay the same scenario in a non-southern belle style!

Lilly Ann: Hey buddy! you broke in line!

Man: Oh, I was here only moments ago. I stepped out of line to get a deposit slip.

Lilly Ann: I don't give a damn, you aren't breaking in front of me, go to the back!

Man: But mam' as I told you, this was my place in line.

Lilly Ann: Get to the back! You're not breaking in front of me!

Man: I have no intention of returning....

Lilly Ann: *interrupting* Oh yea buddy, you 'are' going to the back of this line, if I have to put ya there! Who the hell do you think you are to break in front me and these other people anyway? *several people now behind Lilly Ann* I'm in a hurry and I'm not letting you or anybody else in front of me! MY time is just as important as yours buddy! You have another thing coming if you think you can break in front of me! You slime!! Did your mother not teach you any manners you idiot? You're about a sickening *bleep bleep* to think you can just get ahead of people! Take your *bleep bleep* *bleep* to the end of this line buddy, before I really get pissed! ... And yo mama wears combat boots! Stuff it up your *bleep bleep*

Man: *bleep* you, ya *bleep bleep* (man goes to the end of the line in a huff)

The man returns to the end of the line, his blood pressure is sky high, he's now in a totally rotten mood and he's going to be late returning to work from his lunch break!

Summary

Be the best southern belle you can be! Follow the 'dos' and the 'do not's' and practice your wit, charm, and style daily. Make it a habit! Before long you'll find you've become a smooth-talking, card toting, sweet as sugar genuine Proper Sothern Belle! Wear that southern belle badge with pride!

Make Miss Scarlett PROUD!!!

Proper Southern Belles...
*What they do NOT do*

Do not 'pass gas' in public. (Well yes, they really do, but they look at the person next to them in shock and smile coyly)

Never chase after a man... they connive a man into chasing 'them'. Then act totally surprised when 'caught'.

Never eat large amounts in public... they only nibble and say that they aren't hungry. (A southern belle will eat before a date, then again afterwards! It's not until the 'date' is of a fiance status that a southern belle orders everything on the menu!

Absolutely NEVER sleep with a man on a first date! (they get up and go home to do their sleeping!) A true southern belle never lets the man she's after see her first thing in the morning until she's 'got' him.

Never sweat.

Never get nervous or anxious... They're the picture of calm and control.

Never cuss above a whisper where others might hear them. They use phrases like... 'oh my gosh', 'darn', and 'shoot'.

Proper Southern Belles...
*What they DO*

Do get the man they want!

Are extraordinary hostesses.

Always look thier best! Never a bad hair day or never without the perfect thing to wear.

Are always a bit mysterious.

Are witty and charming.

Throw the best parties.

Have style!
