Facing Large Loss, Toshiba to Shed 3,900 Jobs
Source: New York Times

HONG KONG — Facing the largest net loss in the company’s history, Toshiba said Friday it would cut 3,900 contract workers in Japan by next March.

Toshiba, the largest Japanese maker of semiconductor chips, had already shed 4,500 temporary workers in a layoff program that ended last month. It also has delayed or canceled planned investments in new factories.

Toshiba indicated Friday that its net loss for the fiscal year ending March 31 would be ¥350 billion, or $3.5 billion — its biggest loss ever and its first in seven years.

The figure would be a marked increase from an earlier projected loss of ¥280 billion.

2. a new Toshiba laptop
that is what I have here and oh what a piece of sh*t it is. I can see why Toshiba is going down. When you call for service you get almost anywhere - last time around it was the Philippines. It has been in the shop twice in 2 months (blown HD first time, bad system board second time).

Save your money and buy almost anything else but Toshiba. Quality is perhaps a big piece of their problem might I suggest?
