Pakistan passes Swat Sharia deal
Source: BBC News

Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari has signed a controversial bill introducing Islamic Sharia law to the Swat region, say reports.

The move comes after parliament passed a resolution urging Mr Zardari to honour a promise made to the Taleban.

The implementation of Islamic justice was agreed in February in return for an end to the Taleban insurgency.

Mr Zardari had previously resisted signing the deal, which has been criticised by his Western allies.

1. We must do something about this...either take out the Taliban or stop
giving money to Pakistan (which I know is dangerous in view of their nuclear arms.) The Taliban are evil doers. The way they treat women is not acceptable.

3. We are just so damn screwed. This crap and escalating the 'war' in
Afganistan. This is what happens when you start handing out nuclear technology to 'allies'. Today's allies just might be tomorrow's Taliban.

Nuts.

4.  Zadari approves Sharia law for Swat
Source: Times of India

14 Apr 2009, 1112 hrs IST, IANS

ISLAMABAD: On a day of fast moving developments, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari late on Monday approved the imposition of Sharia law in parts
of the country's restive northwest, including Swat, in return for a controversial deal with the Taliban for laying down their arms.

Zardari signed the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation after parliament approved the measure earlier on Monday, Geo TV quoted senior North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour as saying.

The regulation will see the imposition of Sharia laws in the Malkhand division of NWFP that comprises seven districts, including Swat, where the writ of the Taliban largely runs.

Zardari had given his nod for the Feb 16 deal between the NWFP government and Taliban-linked radical cleric Sufi Mohammad but balked at acceding to it in face of growing international pressure.

"snip...According to the hadith Muhammad suffered from a long-lasting disease, which he treated by means of bleeding. He walked as somebody who comes down from a hill. His skin-colour was peculiar, not white, not too tanned, somewhat rosy. His eyebrows were conspicuous. He was sweating heavily, especially when he was receiving revelations. He heard the noise of bells and voices. He had a great appetite and suffered from hunger. Notwithstanding his sexual relations with ten young women, he remained quasi-sterile:...

Psychologically patients suffer initially from depression, brooding and irritability, also an increase of appetite and a loss of libido. Some patients are anxious and are lacking in self-confidence. When the adenoma exerts pressure on the third ventricle and the optic chiasma in the brain the patients may suffer from hallucinoses...snip"

10. islamic justice. like the couple found together in Saudi without an escort, they gang rape the woman
and ass raped the guy an beat him half to death. or the rich kids in pakistan who beat a poor kid, fearing the law they fabricate a story he had adultery with a rich woman.. the boys punishment was to have his young sister gang raped by a group of rich men, after they were through with her they gave her battery acid to drink. she sued them and won but never got the money.. and will be a pariah, and will never be married.

this is insanity.. there will be no end to the suffering because of this, and most of the suffering will fall on the women.

i think this is to basically repress women and allow the men to replace an older wife with a child.. that will enslave the #2 wife.. till he's bored with her..

anybody see the documentary, "Behind the Veil"..?

11. The Pakistani parliament is desperately reaching for a life preserver.
Their country is disintegrating around them and they're hoping this will buy them time.

The Taliban have already said that their goal is to impose Sharia across the nation, and have all but admitted that their reason for agreeing to this is simply to regroup for the next expansion. The people in Swat and other areas the Taliban have entered are still restless under their control, and they want a chance to kill off any opposition in their newly controlled areas before expanding further.

Still, there was just another article today about the Taliban starting to move into Punjab, stirring up trouble and threatening Hindu's and Sikh's. I don't see this ceasefire lasting long.
