U.S. Customs agents say they've stopped a massive shipment of weapons from entering the United States through the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Customs and Border Patrol agents made the seizure yesterday. The shipment, manifested as "Toys" was valued at $14,000 and shipped in 25 boxes from Istanbul, Turkey.

Agents decided to search the boxes after it was determined the weapons had arrived without the proper permits.

They found 60 pump action 12-gauge shotguns and 177 pistols. The shotguns were encased in Styrofoam molding and individually packaged in 12 large boxes. The pistols were shipped within hard plastic gun storage cases packed inside 13 large cardboard boxes.

The guns were destined for a business located in Kentucky. Neither the shotguns nor pistols were found to have any serial numbers or markings.

Agents say this is the largest seizure of weapons ever made by CBP in Cincinnati.

21. They are a bunch of hyped up on their cop trip
Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 07:58 PM by mountainvue
imcompetent fucks. They would sooner harass someones grandmother for having 3 oz of liquid or gel in their carry on. The customs folks are a decidely unfriendly bunch. I had the unpleasant experience of getting stuck in an elevator with them once.

6. I'll tell you what's strange about this story...
233 weapons divided into $14,000=$60.09 each...So why are customs agents, who seize an ounce of grass and declare it worth a fortune, now lowballing this arms shipment???

It will be pretty funny if that turns out to be the case.

9. The weapons were not valued at $14,000 - the toys listed on the manifest
were supposedly worth $14,000.

The manifest lied about the contents - you're surprised it lied about the value?

(It was a poorly worded article - don't they teach writing in J-school anymore?)

12. Plus, theyre not exactly the kind of guns you'd expect to be smuggled into the US
60 pump action shotguns and 177 cheap eastern bloc pistols? If it were something really illegal like full-auto ak's or rpg's some serious money could be made in smuggling, but nobody's gonna get RICH off the profit margin from selling 60 shotguns and some makarovs (or whatever they are). Makes you wonder about the Kentucky company they were bound for, and who the intended 'purchasers' were.

Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 10:10 AM by slackmaster
i.e. Airsoft guns, which would make $60 each about right.

the pistols fire blanks and the shotguns are real.
Somebody has no idea what a gun is. This is just getting more and more screwed up.

Let them shoot blanks at each other.

8. Probably counterfeit copies of name-brand firearms
Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 10:05 AM by slackmaster
Pretty pedestrian, and everyone who got caught is going to do some hard time in federal PMITA prison.

Or maybe they just might turn out to be Airsoft guns.
