Kelly 'killed by abuse of power'

Clare Short last night blamed the death of Dr David Kelly on an 'abuse of power' by Tony Blair's Government in her most critical comments on the scandal so far.

The former International Development Secretary, who walked out of the Cabinet after the Iraq war, said the tragedy of the scientist had become a symbol of the Premier's "obsession with spin".

Coming closer than she has ever done before to blaming Dr Kelly's death directly on Mr Blair, she said resignations should follow Lord Hutton's inquiry.
