Teacher, student naked in car S.F. police arrest 30-year-old woman

A 30-year-old San Francisco schoolteacher faces lewd conduct charges after being caught naked in a car after school with a 14-year-old Luther Burbank Middle School student, authorities said Friday.

At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, patrol officers driving in an area of McLaren Park known for drugs and prostitution spotted a car with steamed windows, suggesting either drug or sexual activity, according to Capt. Frank O'Malley of the Police Department's Juvenile Division.

Upon checking the car, which was parked at John F. Shelley Drive and Cambridge Street, officers found Nieka Arreola and the unidentified student, who worked as an aide in a classroom at Luther Burbank, undressed in the car. Arreola reportedly told police she was giving the boy a ride home. She was booked on three counts with lewd and lascivious acts on a minor.

What kind of message are they sending to our youth? Der Gropenfuhrer should get right on top of this (I'm sure he'd love to). Sad, sad stuff.

5. Probably Not
Females normally get off light on the same charge that would send a male up for 10-15 years. Sad fact of life.

9. Very different acts
Edited on Sat Feb-21-04 10:43 AM by mobuto
There is an enormous difference between a 30 year man having sex with a 14 year old girl and a 30 year old woman having sex with a 14 year old boy. This relationship was wrong and dangerous, but it doesn't carry nearly the same implications of violence or abuse of power the reverse would.

A young girl cannot easily say "no" to a 30 year old man - there is an implicit threat of violence.

A 14 year old boy can always say "no" to a 30 year old woman - but probably wouldn't.

19. Explain this more.
Why the double standard? Why, in your mind, there is not an implicit threat in a 30 year old woman's desire to have sex with her student, and the student's refusing?

Perhaps more importantly, why should this double standard that exists in some people's minds be codified in law?

21. Why?
Because the difference in size and strength between a 30 year man and a 14 year old girl is a lot bigger in the vast majority of cases than the difference in size and strength between a 30 year old woman and a 14 year old boy. Even if there is no violence, there is the implicit threat of violence.

Now my problem with the case isn't so much that a woman had sex with a teenage boy, but that the woman was the boy's instructor - and that hierarchy creates real problems.

Perhaps more importantly, why should this double standard that exists in some people's minds be codified in law?

I'm not a lawyer or a legal scholar, I'm not sure that it should.

23. Oh, right.
Just ask Mary Kay LeTourneau, who I believe is still in jail and had all her children taken away from her for this same offense.

(I'm not saying she shouldn't have lost custody, I'm just saying it's a false assumption that the older woman will get away with it).

15. I doubt very seriously that the boy feels like a victim but more like a
conquering hero. You have to realize that a fourteen year old boy thinks of nothing other than sex. Believe me he doesn't feel harmed in any manner at all.

7. Maybe this woman is laying the groundwork to run for Governor
as a republican. This sounds like something Arnold would do. And we know how much the republican party approves of his past sexual behavior. Perhaps this woman will be given a prominent speaking role at the republican convention.

The windows were steamy because they were making tea. :eyes:

Just curious, how do steamy windows suggest drug activity? Are the kids heating the bongs these days?

13. Maybe the woman will become pregnant, then
the young man can pay her child support. That's what just happened in Detroit.

A 14 year old had a baby with an older married woman. He didn't know it until just recently, when now 29, he has been ordered to pay child support to the woman who statutory raped him 15 years ago.

Here's the story from the Detroit Free Press. Ironically, there is another story on the front page of the Detroit paper with the headline "Students are missing out on free tutoring." I guess not all students are.

Our custody and child suppport laws are quite screwed up in my opinion.
