Franken to move to dismiss Minn. Senate case
Source: AP

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Four months after Minnesota voters threw their Senate election into chaos, Democrat Al Franken's lawyers finalized papers Wednesday asking a court to bring an end to Republican Norm Coleman's lawsuit over the result.

Franken attorney Marc Elias said he would file the motion for dismissal Thursday and hoped it would be argued publicly on Friday. Coleman attorney Ben Ginsberg characterized the move as "pawing of the ground and snorting of the breath."

Six weeks into trial, Ginsberg said serious doubts are being raised about the Nov. 4 election as each day passes, including questions about the trustworthiness of data in a key state voter database.

Meanwhile, Franken made a brief appearance at a Capitol awards ceremony a block away from the courthouse. He expressed confidence that the trial would go his way, but he declined to rule out an appeal if Coleman prevails.

Why the delay? Franken should have been sworn in and hard at work by now.

11. Because in truth, a lot of them don't like Franken.
He doesn't want to do things "the way they're done" in the Senate. Nor did he want to listen to them for the campaign.

He had his own ideas and his own people, people he trusted, and the DFL (Democrat-Farmer Labor party, the Democratic party in Minnesota) hated that.

Apparently he never did the whole "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" thing during the campaign. It pissed a lot of DFL'ers off, because he wouldn't kowtow to them.

Look at the whole "Playboy article" incident. He didn't immediately apologize and humbly hang his head in shame for a piece of satire he wrote for Playboy magazine in the 1990s and very few current DFL politicians would campaign for him over the summer. My Rep, Betty McCollum, didn't give her endorsement of Franken until some time in October, I believe. She was furious with Franken for the satire he wrote last decade, and he didn't immediately beg forgiveness for it. So she withed her support for a while.

Yeah, there's a bunch of DFL'ers who don't like Franken.

14. Because that would make us look as desperate as Team Coleman
We just have to sit tight and wait for this to play out. The truth and the votes are on our side.

Franken will walk into the Senate. The Democrats will give him a long, standing ovation.

The Republicans will sit there like inflamed, festering boils on Rush Limbaugh's ass.

12. Good move
Coleman would delay forever. There are minor things that could be pointed to in every election.

13. What would Republican dipshits call Coleman if he were Gore & it was 2000?
Right now, I know I'm calling them time-wasting fuckwads.
