Scientists Accuse White House of Distorting Facts (NYT)
By JAMES GLANZ NY Times

February 18, 2004

The Bush administration has deliberately and systematically distorted scientific fact in the service of policy goals on the environment, health, biomedical research and nuclear weaponry at home and abroad, a group of about 60 influential scientists, including 20 Nobel laureates, said in a statement issued today.

The sweeping charges were later discussed in a conference call with some of the scientists that was organized by the Union of Concerned Scientists, an independent organization that focuses on technical issues and has often taken stands at odds with administration policy. The organization also issued a 37-page report today that it said detailed the accusations.

Together, the two documents accuse the administration of repeatedly censoring and suppressing reports by its own scientists, stacking advisory committees with unqualified political appointees, disbanding government panels that provide unwanted advice, and refusing to seek any independent scientific expertise in some cases.

1. No kidding.
Global warming doesn't exist if you don't study it anymore.

Meanwhile, here in Atlanta it doesn't snow anymore.

3. Nor where I live.
Twenty to thirty years ago we used to get a good week or two of snow fall, sometimes up to a 6 or 7 inches. This winter we got a slight dusting, then that was all. Last winter we got about a half inch one night.

6. I remember when I was a kid
here in SW MI back in the early '80s we had lots of snow every winter. Ice fishing and snowmobiling were common winter activities for me back then.

Twenty years later, I wonder if we'll have snow that year. The past few were pretty mild; this year we got it heavy. No snow for some time lately, though, but very cold. Brrrr!

Seriously. I've seen local climate change in my lifetime. And they tell me global warming isn't a problem, nothing to see here.

Move right along.

What's he need with scientific advice?

7. I really have to wonder about the Bush admin
What is it with the constant, non-stop deceit? I mean, they distort and lie on literally *EVERYTHING*. You simply cannot trust a single word from them.

I wonder if it's because people like Bush get by almost their whole lives by bullshitting, that they assume that's the normal way of life. And so when real scientists give their learned opinions on subjects, I wonder if the Bushies think those people are just bullshitting also. So they feel free to distort all they want, because it's all just bullshit anyway.

8. stealth environmental destruction...and we the scientists are really
sick of bush* policy to destroy EVERYTHING in America....just to make money for shrub's greedy obscenely-wealthy campaign contributors....

this VERY serious report should be noted by the people of America....many many scientists, such as myself, have watched bush* destruction since he and his minions seized control of OUR government...

this report was a long time coming, and I'm glad it's finally arrives....it's a BIG insight into the behind-the-scenes operations of the bush* bunch of criminals

11. The U.S. has already lost the lead in stem cell reserach
and all the top scientists have left to work for foreign companies. The U.S. pioneered stem cell research and now foreign companies will benefit from this all because Bush had to satisfy the Taliban wing of his party.

I would have bet against him. I mean, it's pretty wild what he's accomplished. And there's a great deal more where that came from so I really hope he doesn't get another 4 years (his replacement is going to have a very difficult time undoing the damage as it is).

15. it was entirely the reagun/bush agenda, which was briefly interupted
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 06:52 PM by amen1234
by Clinton....with bush* junior at the wheel....pappy bush went ahead and installed all his old cronies (including pappy bush THUGS from his years as chief of CIA) into the White House, the military and all the Federal agencies....they already had LOTS of experience in all this destruction and war policies under reaguns...reagun/bush tried many times to totally remove the EPA ....reaguns actually just a puppet for VP pappy bush, since there can be little doubt that reaguns already had full blown Alziemers disease while in WH (which was announced shortly after reaguns completed his second term)....

so for the junior bush* minions, it was easy...just appoint all the OLD reagun/bush criminals: experienced in government, destructive, dangerous people...many of whom were CONVICTED in the Iran Contra and other scandals, yet received 'Presidential pardon' from pappy bush in a stealth maneuver on Christmas eve, just before pappy bush was BOOTED out of the White House....it was those Presidential pardons for Iran Contra that set the stage for OUR current Iraq war....it was all right there....

-----------------------------------------

watch flash video here...very short two minute history of saddam hussein and the USA, highlighting the CIA, which was headed by pappy bush* and donald rumsfeld, who served under reagun/bush...it's an eye-opener...
