Bush doesn't mention military service flap
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/7974466.htm

FORT POLK, La. - President Bush, dogged by questions about his Vietnam-era service in the Air National Guard, surrounded himself with a sea of military olive and beige Tuesday, touting his credentials as commander in chief at an Army base that has sent thousands of troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and lunching with a soon-to-be-deployed group of guardsmen.

White House officials said Bush's campaign-style stop at Fort Polk had nothing to do with the controversy over gaps in his service record with the Air National Guard between May 1972 and May 1973. snip

Bush said nothing about the controversy over his Guard service. snip

"Everybody in the Guard does it," said an Army specialist who helps train Guard troops at the fort. "It's common for people" to not come to work or go AWOL.

2. I'm sure all the Guardsmen/women over in Iraq will appreciate knowing this
'Cause then they can get outta there early, can't they? Just go home? Like Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" - how 'bout "Just Go Home!" I'm sure the military won't mind. They're used to cutting sweetheart deals like this, right? They do it all the time, right?

5. Maybe Junior thinks this controversy will just go away.
Personally, I don't think it will.

How can anyone in the military (active duty or retired) respect the commander-in-chief with a coward's background like AWOL's?!?

6. The utter gall of these people...guard troops about to be deployed
and their army trainer says it's OK for Bush not to come to work or to go AWOL because guard troops do it all the time. If I heard that, I would be outta there faster than Bush could blink his beady little eyes.
How far will the GOP go to protect this treasonous bastard and the rest of his cowardly Crime Family? Defending someone who went AWOL...you don't hear that everyday in the army, I'll bet!

9. What about The Pet Goat (variant=The Hungry Caterpillar)?
How was his resolve then? He was absent for a good part of that day too.

"My resolve is the same as it was on the day when I walked in the rubble of the twin towers," Bush said, referring to the World Trade Center skyscrapers felled by two hijacked airliners on Sept. 11, 2001. "I will not relent until this threat is removed. And neither will you."
