Exclusive: Wright Sings 'Proud' Tune on Obama in D.C. Pulpit – Then Rips ABC News

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright may have made his peace with the former parishioner he once suggested turned on him for political gain, President-elect Barack Obama, but in an exclusive interview, he showed he's still furious with the media, who he called "evil," and said he's "not going to kiss anybody's behind."

In a sermon today at Howard University's chapel in Washington, Wright used Obama's life as an example to show how despite challenges as a nation, the country can build a better future.

"He was able to do what nobody of African decent was ever able to do in the 211-year history of this country. ... The Lord stepped into his story and gave him a new attitude," he said.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News following the service, Wright showed some of that same fire when he lashed out at the network for breaking the story of his inflammatory sermons, saying he was "not going to kiss anybody's behind."

Wright was visibly angry when speaking about the press, and in particular ABC News, which first presented a "Good Morning America" story about Wright's sermons.

When Wright implied that Obama's rejection of his views wasn't sincere, that Obama was motivated by political concerns, Wright wasn't simply defending himself -- he was undermining Obama, deliberately in my opinion.

Just to name a couple. Rev. Wright was absolutely spot on in everything he said. And it had nothing to do with Obama.

I will never forget that. The night before, Rev. Wright had been the guest of Bill Moyers, and presented himself as a thoughtful, intelligent, insightful man who'd done the best he could with his life, all of it very admirable.

But the next day, there he was, a preening, bombastic fool, thoroughly unlikable.

I couldn't believe it was the same man.

My conclusion was that the attention brought out the fool in him, and I really do believe he was terribly jealous of Obama. I guess he's still trying to get all the attention he can. Sad.

My greatest hope is that deep down Obama still agrees with Rev. Wright, that the way Americans have become rich and powerful is evil, that the elite of our country make sick mockeries of the words "freedom" and "justice" by using them to justify the horrible things the American govt. has done to ensure profits for our largest companies.

Of course, the average American is totally ignorant of the dictators our country has supported, the innocents we have killed, the fledgling South American unions we have helped crushed. They really believe GWB when he says that "freedom is on the march." We really are a country full of little fascists. So, Obama had to, like Rev. Wright said, publicly deny his true (or former) convictions and turn his back on the preacher and the congregation he knew for decades.

In public I never admit that I sympathize with Wright's rant about "goddamn America," because in a small way that would hurt Obama and his chances of governing well. I can never convince the idiots who have believed the lies about American freedom their entire lives that our leaders are just as bad as the dictators they helped install, such as Saddam Hussein. And those idiots make up a solid majority of our voters. However, I recognize that by doing so I am, in essence, lying for political expediency. I kind of wish that Wright had done the same, and stayed away from Obama forever. However, if he thinks truth is more important than politics, I don't think we should blame him.

however, in the world of politics, one needs to be tactful and Rev. Wright lacks it completely. This means that subconsciously, Rev. Wright cherishes the shock value of his message rather than the message itself.
