Iran interested in Boeing jets
Source: AP

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — A top Iranian aviation official says his country is prepared to order passenger planes from Boeing if the United States lifts sanctions against Iran

Iranian Civil Aviation Organization spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said Thursday that U.S. sanctions are self-defeating because they denies Boeing huge profits.

Jafarzadeh says sanctions have also forced Iran to import technology from Ukraine and build planes itself.

Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran has been subject to U.S. sanctions that hinder the purchase of not only military fighter planes but also civilian passenger aircraft and spare parts.

1. How's Boeing's financial health these days?
I haven't been keeping track of them.

Oh, also, for the "nothing is made in America any more" people, here's an example of something that's still manufactured in the US.

4. their suffering for the botched outsourcing of the 787
The outsourced everything on the 787 to the lowest/most subsudized bidders who have suprise - suprise turned out to be incompetent in most efforts, the plane is many years late and with cascading penalties for missed deliveries snowballing.

6. Assembled, not manufactured in the US.
Upwards of 50% of the parts are made elsewhere, such as the 787, wings made in japan, cockpit in italy, wiring in mexico, forward fuselage in japan, etc.

Iran Air Need new aircraft, becouse their old Boeing is beginning to be old now.. Even that Iran Air, and the Iranies have made the most part them self, after the sanctions was put into place.. And 30 year of sanctions have not made Iran a cripple either, the irani people are resourcefully and have made a lot of progress making their own parts to the different aircraft. They even have the 707 flying pretty well.. Even that the old bird are in need of some hard maintaining and often are been put into storage.. As their 747s have been sometimes..

If some of the sanctions is lifted, off course the Iran government have to make some progress when it come to the nuclear reactor stuff they are building, to ensure the US that they do not want to make the bomb (the nuclear bomb that is) then the Iran government, and the airliners would have new hardware.. Like maybe some nice, used 747s, some 777 and so on... I bet the 744 would be nice in the current Iran Air livery... They look pretty smart on the old B747SP they have today...

And in any cases, the ukraine are there, the same is the russians, so I guess it is not hat painfully at all for the Iran's.. But for a country like Iran who are at the same size of France, to have the small airline parts like Iran is just stupid... If US want the iranians need new aircraft.. And I would guess, that the train for Boeing is not going from the station yet.

And I really doubt that Boeing are, if given the shance in any way unwillingly to build whatever the airliners in Iran want to have - or at least give them some verry nice used aircraft, both 737s, 747s and so on... Boeing need the money, and more to the point Iran Air seen to NEED new aircraft, even that they manage pretty vell on their own anyway..

5. Apparently their planes are falling out of the sky all the time. They haven't been
able to import plane parts since the 1979 Revolution and the sanctions.
