Iraq to probe 'custody abuse' of Bush shoe assailant
Source: AFP

BAGHDAD (AFP) Iraq's justice system is to probe the case of the journalist who hurled his shoes at US President George W. Bush, officials said on Tuesday, as his brother said he had been beaten up by security agents.

"Muntazer al-Zaidi has been transferred to the judicial authorities who have opened an investigation. But it is too soon to say who was behind this act," General Qassem Atta, spokesman for a Baghdad security plan, told AFP.

...

He said he had been told that his brother was initially held by Iraqi forces in the heavily fortified Green Zone compound in central Baghdad where the US embassy and most government offices are housed.

"He has got a broken arm and ribs, and cuts to his eye and arm," said Durgham.

...

An AFP journalist said that blood was visible on the ground as he was led away into custody although it was unclear if it was his.

3. And the war criminal dare not just walk around like a 'normal'
human being. Not after what he's done. Not ever.

4. I fear we are ALL going to pay for his crimes....not him.
We have given the Muslim world a reason for hating us and wanting to harm us...in a big way. WE are responsible for what has happened in Iraq. We let it happen. WE may not have liked it, but WE let it happen.

They will be at war with us for eternity. Perhaps one day they will succeed with their vengeance, and WE will hurt like the families of Iraq hurt today.

THAT is the bush legacy. A lifetime of fear and waiting for the day when vengeance is brought down on US. I hope I'm wrong...but I fear I am not.

6. If as a child you watched your parent being beaten, tortured,
maimed and or killed, I don't imagine you would harbor very good feelings for the people who perpetrated it. What George W. Bush has managed to do is create a whole new generation of anti-U.S. feelings among Arab nations. I predict he will never admit as such, but mission accomplished chimpy.

7. Yes. The people of America will pay a huge price(more so) for Bush's actions
Not the only people by a long shot..but still, Americans will pay the price for government's actions..and I daresay, inaction (complete lack of accountability)

and the truly pathetic part is...some Americans will cling to our government and speak of how good it is, all the while paying for those actions and inactions
