Cobb County: Ballot requests run into a glitch
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 08:59 PM by Mark E. Smith
Source: The Atlanta Journal Consitution

A Republican-generated effort to get out the vote for the Dec. 2
runoff election has hit a snag as thousands of requests for absentee
ballots have been denied because the applications were not signed.

County elections officials are contacting voters by mail, directing
them to print applications from county or state election Web sites
and fax them in by Wednesday.

Many of the unsigned requests came in the form of cards printed
by the Republican National Committee and mailed to voters. Repub-
lican U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss is in a tight battle to retain his seat
by beating Democratic challenger Jim Martin.

Cobb County received about 7,075 of the cards from voters that
were not signed, about 44 percent of the cards received. "We've
never seen anything near that ratio," registration manager Beth
Kish said.

DeKalb County election officials have received 5,000 applications
from the RNC mailing and trejected 2,800 of them.

2. also lived in GA ................
Sad, but true.

I lived in GA in the late 60s. Not being born there, I was never accepted, barely
tolerated as long as I didn't get too big for my britches.

The model for the dumbing down of America has been around for a long time. Take your pick - GA, SC, AL, MS and/or New York City.

In fairness, one of my employees did have a GA computer. Think it was called
'etch - a - ...' something or other.

Oh, I forgot to put FL in the list above.

Now, they have a new claim to fame - home of the Regional Republican Party.
Shouldn't be to hard to contain for a thousand years or so.

4. No, no, no . . . you just don't get it:
When low echelon dem operatives sign up cartoon characters who could never vote anyway, that's "voter fraud." When the 'Lican leadership signs up thousands of phantom voters who will tip the balance to their guy, it's "bringing out their base."

Gotta get the basic terminology right.

5. Just an FYI on the cartoon name thing...
From 411.org, there are a few Della Ware's as well. Both perfectly valid last names and parent can be cruel sometimes. All this hoopla over cartoon names is based on the assumption that they cannot be real people :)

6. True, but while the person whose whimsical parents named them . . .
"Della Ware" can actually show up at the polling booth -- being a presumably real person an' all -- Walt Disney's entirely fictional plucky little mouse is going to have a tougher go of it.

As an aside, I once had a girlfriend whose parents nearly named her "Amanda Lynne" (say it quickly). She was always gratified that they changed their minds right before filling out the birth certificate.

7. I got laid off last month...
...so I've been out canvassing. Had to take today off (my knees were screamin').

RNC absentee ballots requests rejected? Woo frickin' HOOO.

I'll take anything that will help get Jim Martin (and Jim Powell / PSC) into office.

Would love to get Saxby out of office!!!

8. I don't think we should get too worked up about Republicans
failing to properly register other Republicans.

I'm not feeling any of their pain.

10. Now, the Republicons are caging their own voters.
Wow, the repukes are so into cheating, lying, disenfranchising voters and caging them that they are doing it to their own voters. They hate the idea of the little people voting so much that they stopped their own little people voters from voting. Only Republicons could have devised such a devious plan.
