Paid GOP workers say they misled Wis. voters
Edited on Mon Nov-03-08 10:45 PM by DogPoundPup
Source: Examiner.com Chicago

Four employees hired by a temporary staffing agency to encourage absentee voting for Sen. John McCain in Wisconsin say they were instructed to tell people they were Republican volunteers.

The employees told The Associated Press in interviews on Monday they were hired by Allstaff Labor Group to go door-to-door in the Milwaukee suburbs locating McCain supporters and distributing absentee ballot request forms.

Allstaff recruited the workers under a contract with a consulting firm hired by the Republican Party of Wisconsin to run its absentee ballot program.

The workers claim they were told to say they were GOP volunteers even though they were getting paid $10 an hour for the work. They were required to sign agreements stating they would not speak publicly about their work with anyone including reporters, but they decided to speak out because they were angry they had not been paid for their final few days.

1. This is the funniest story of the season (aside from them not getting paid)
Of course, this is a ridiculous abuse of something - temp agencies pretending they are volunteers?!

2. This confirms a video report, I think on DailyKos, where reporters were
told to leave and told they could not interview paid McShame "volunteers" because those "volunteers" had signed confidentiality agreements. One McShameful staffer physicially intimidated the reporter, covering her camera with his hand, demanding she leave the public sidewalk, called "the police" on his cell phone, and was quite an ass until his boss told him to chill.

How many other lies they have orchestrated, we will never know, since they evidently do have confidentiality agreements from their paid "volunteers."

5. if they cnavass, the'd be more believeable and persuasive.... also it makes their whole op seem
more successful- imagine if they had no "volunteers" at all- or half as many as it appeared they had.
pwoplw might pause to think why..

12. What they're doing is hiring phony volunteers
They figure volunteers give people the impression of enthusiastic supporters.

Paid canvassers don't care who they're working for, as long as they get paid. It's just a job to make money.

So now instead of an Acorn scandal we have another McScorn scandal.

6. Didn't we just learn it's illegal to pitch these forms?
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 12:40 AM by Roy
Even the falsified forms?

(snip)
"with at least one employee turning in numerous absentee ballot distribution forms that were falsified. He said the worker was promptly fired and the local clerk tossed out the forms."

17. Paid GOP workers say the misled Wisconsin voters
Source: AP

MADISON, Wis. – Four employees hired by a temporary staffing agency to encourage absentee voting for Republican presidential candidate John McCain say they were instructed to tell people they were GOP volunteers.
Kevin Kennedy, director of the state's Government Accountability Board, said he received complaints that the workers were told to mislead voters into believing they were volunteers. The complaints have been forwarded to local district attorneys, he said, but it's unclear whether the alleged deception would be a crime.
The employees told The Associated Press on Monday they were hired by Allstaff Labor Group to go door to door in the Milwaukee suburbs locating McCain supporters and distributing absentee ballot request forms. Allstaff recruited them under a contract with a consulting firm hired by the Republican Party of Wisconsin to run its absentee ballot program.
The workers claim they were told to say they were GOP volunteers even though they were getting paid $10 an hour. They were required to sign agreements stating they would not publicly discuss their work but said they decided to speak out because they were angry they had not been paid for the last few days. They claim they are owed between $200 and $300.

not because they had lied or that what they had done was wrong.

23. So they volunteered after all!
They just didn't realize they were telling the truth. Sounds like all's well that ends well. The GOP got some free work, their favorite kind, and a bunch of underpaid knuckleheads found out what happens when you trust Republicans. Hopefully, they had their learning hats on while getting screwed.

29. What super geniuses in the GOP!
Require paid contractors to lie, then don't pay them in full nor assure that the consulting firm does. LOL!

And what is the legality of a signed agreement to LIE?
