More Remains Found Near Fossett Accident Site
Source: Aero-News.Net

The continuing search for more of the remains of adventurer Steve Fossett's body has yielded two large human bones, which have been sent to a lab for DNA testing.

Found about a half-mile east of the crash site, the discovery of the bones "reinforces our theory that animals dragged him away," County Sheriff John Anderson said. Lab results are expected in a week.

Previous bone fragments discovered near the aircraft's wreckage were found to be either not human or too small for DNA analysis, UKs Telegraph said.

Search crews scouring the area also found tennis shoes, Fossett's Illinois driver's license, and some credit cards. The shoes and license had animal bite marks on them, authorities said.

Maybe this will help bring some closure for his family and friends. RIP Steve Fossett.

1. Wow. I was just thinking
about him a few hours ago. So sad.

2. It is sad
He did die doing what he loved, though. People say that's all we can wish for.

3. Doing what he loved? Making a routine scouting flight in a conventional plane?
This is like Dale Ernhardt, Jr. getting killed on his way to buy groceries.

4. Maybe, maybe not
It was still flying. Hard to know what might have gone through his mind that day.

6. LOL! Dude, that is beyond fucked up! I'm appalled at you...
Still, given where he was when he crashed, I'd say the "what he loved" argument holds water - he was flying through some amazing topography, and the things he was scouting for are in the opposite direction. It's pretty clear he was in a pleasure mode...

7. Well, if it gives you comfort to think so, sure. But it's still a huge waste. n/t

8. Personally, I don't need comforting - I find this curious because I spend
a lot of time backpacking in that area, so the various plane wrecks up there are of interest to me. Other than that, Fossett is no different to me than the 1000s of other people who die unexpectedly. I suppose it would give his family some relief to believe he was happy at the end...

10. It gives me small comfort.
I do think he was enjoying the day. Scouting was a big part of his accomplishments, and I like to think he enjoyed that part as well as the final thrills.

9. Just a theory
I wonder if he had a heart attack or something that caused him to lose control of the plane.

11. It's an extremely rough area to fly in.
There are invisible air vortexes near the ridgeline of the Sierras when the wind is blowing (as it was the day he vanished) that are literally capable of ripping a small plane apart midair. Imagine flying into a tornado. If that didn't do it, it might have been the downdrafts that can slam a plane into the ground at over 200MPH, or the cloud banks that can materialize out of clear blue sky in a period of seconds.

He might have had a heart attack, but the reality is that the Sierra's have claimed hundreds of aircraft over the last century. The range is beautiful, but the skies are far from friendly.
