Computer Glitch Slows Early Voting (Orlando)
Source: Local 6

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A computer glitch slowed early voting in Orange County Friday morning, causing three-hour waits at some locations and frustrating Floridians trying to take advantage of early voting.

About 500 people were waiting in line to vote at the Alafaya Branch Library, located off state Road 50 in east Orange County, as record numbers of people continue to turn out for early voting.

Woody Rodriguez, attorney for the supervisor of elections, told Local 6 News that a local server was causing voting to be delayed, but was not preventing people from voting.

1. So fixing the machines is now called a 'glitch'? I'll be sure to
keep that definition in mind when I want to twist something to my benefit.

2. So what happens when 5,000 people come to vote. Will the line be 30 hours long?

5. Alafaya Branch= poorer section of town
= lots of minorities. I stopped by that branch last week and the line ran well out into the parking lot. This has been going on for some time now.

8. Not Really - It's Kind of Mixed
It's a lot of students out here too. The minorities are more Hispanic than African American - I don't know if that makes a difference. There are a lot of middle class neighborhoods too. There are some poor areas, and east Orange (Bithlo, Christmas) is very rural, but there's been a lot of development in east Orange in the past 5 - 10 years. So, that little Alafaya branch has to cover a lot of territory.

The problem may be that the Alafaya library covers such a large part of the county for early voting. The next nearest site is over 10 miles away. Couple that with any issues verifying the identity of students and minorities.

Our SoE in Orange County is a Democrat, and I have complete confidence he is not trying any vote repressing tactics.

11. Well, the people I saw lined up the other day were mostly minorities
you won't find faulty equipment in Winter Park and Windermere. You also won't have to drive ten miles to the next nearest early voting site from those locations.
