Florida to expect a wave of Venez. tax fugitives on the heels of NED docs
<clips>

Southern Florida will shortly be the destination of choice for hundreds of Venezuelans caught up in the latest round of contention between Washington D.C. and Caracas as Venezuelan IRS/Seniat tax officials pore over compromising data revealed in details from the US National Endowment for Democracy (NED) showing the extent of US government funding of anti-government groupings engaged in subversive activities against the democratically-elected government of President Hugo Chavez Frias.

While previous administrations might easily have turned a blind eye, the Chavez Frias government is intent on cleaning up endemic tax evasion, especially on the heels of an opposition call for major businesses to withhold tax payments in an effort to economically strangle the Chavez Frias government out of business.

The opposition maneuver has not surprisingly backfired on itself since it has only given impetus to the IRS/Seniat to take remedial action against recidivist tax dodgers. Details from NED, obtained under US FOI, have given a road map for tax inspectors leading directly to the front doors (and back doors) of political leaders who have received substantial funding from within the Beltway.

Although the US NED says it is aimed at strengthening democracy and helping to "free the world" ... details just coming to light show the extent of Washington's covert operations to undermine nascent democracy in Venezuela to benefit USA big business.
