Rep. Michele Bachmann says Obama 'may' be anti-American
Source: MPR

Minneapolis — In an interview on the MSNBC program "Hardball," host Chris Matthews asked Bachmann, currently running for reelection in Minnesota's 6th District, if she thinks Obama may have anti-American views. Her response: "Absolutely. I'm very concerned that he may have anti-American views."

Bachmann said she based her suspicions on Obama's past associations with his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, and 1960's-era radical Bill Ayers. In so doing, she echoed similar criticisms by Republican presidential candidate John McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin - although they have stopped short of outright suggesting that Obama is anti-American.

...

During the TV interview, Bachmann also singled out a comment that Obama's wife, Michelle, made earlier in the year in which she remarked that "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country."

"And so these are very anti-American views," Bachmann said on the show.

Matthews also asked Bachmann, "How many people in Congress of the United States do you believe are anti-American?"

Bachmann replied, "I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America?"

Michelle Marston, spokeswoman for Bachmann's reelection campaign, said it's "perfectly legitimate for the American people to want to know how all this informs his policy positions and what direction an Obama Administration would want to lead the nation."

27. It was said that Tinklenberg got an immediate $30,000 donation...
after Bachmann's statement on Hardball. Why did Matthews allow her to ramble on? Was reminding me of McCarthyism. She is one very sick puppy...disgusting. Her verbal diarrhea was beginning to smell like the real stuff. C'mon Minnesotans, convince me that she doesn't actually represent your views.

The McCain/Palin candidacy is sinking further into the sewer each and every day.

61. He should have interrupted her less
with the probing questions. I think he did that to control the damage she was wreaking. Bachmann is living in a fantasy internet world of anonymous e-mails from Cousin Cletus by way of Uncle Festus. She is out of touch with reality, and I hope her constituency. I'll have to take a look at District 6. Is there an institution of higher learning, to include Middle Schools, in sight? Doesn't sound like it.

And I'm pleased that, even though she's been spreading inane crap at her speeches, she at least had some tiny shred of decency to admit that nobody serves in the Senate or runs for president because they "hate America".

I'll give her that sliver of credit.

22. Los Angeles Times
Sarah Palin believes Barack Obama loves America, but Republican Michele Bachmann isn't so sure

"I know Obama loves America," she said during a brief give-and-take with reporters aboard her campaign plane. She continued, "I'm sure that is why he's running for president. It's because he wants to do what he believes is in the best interest of this great nation. ... I don't question at all Barack Obama's love for this great country."

Our colleague Mark Silva at the Swamp has more on what Palin had to say. But whereas the Republican vice presidential candidate attested to Obama's patriotism, a GOP surrogate -- in a television appearance this evening bound to make the rounds on the Internet -- wasn't willing to concede that point.

Indeed, before Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota was done, she raised the specter of the days of Joe McCarthy, suggesting an investigation of whether some of her Capitol Hill colleagues are "pro-America or anti-America."

39. Because Bachmann only accepts e-mails from constituency...
This is the message I sent to the only Republican representing me at the Federal level:

RE: Because I disagree with your views, am I a traitor?

Dear Sen Voinovich, I am seriously concerned with many recent public pronouncements of your fellow Republicans, especially as you are supposedly representing me, your fellow citizen of the US, Ohio, and Cleveland. As most recently and extremely voiced by your party colleague, Rep Bachmann, anyone who disagrees with the Republican position on apparently anything is un-American, a traitor, a terrorist, treasonous, deluded, a socialist, a communist, and/or not pro-American. I disagree profoundly with all of your positions, and believe that by the rights and responsibilities afforded me as a citizen under the Constitution, I can do so freely and without fear of being jailed or fined for my dissent.

I would appreciate your confirming (publicly would be nice, as I am sure many of my fellow citizens, especially those of us Ohioans represented by the unashamedly liberal Hon. Dennis Kucinich, may have the same concern) that my dissent with your views and with views of your fellow Republicans does not subject me to charges of disloyalty, treason or subversion.

Your public support of our rights under the first amendment of the Constitution would be greatly appreciated. Your condemnation of those who would question the patriotism of others would be more than appreciated, it would be unequivocably moral and just.

Yours sincerely,

MB Richlovsky

PS As Rep Michelle Bachmann is not accepting e-mail from anyone outside her constituency, I would appreciate your passing this message along to her. Her recent blanket accusations of unAmericanism is the most recent and egregious in a long string of attacks on the patriotism of citizens.
