Harsh GOP robo-call hits (Obama for working closely with "terrorist") Ayers
Source: Politico

A harsh new robocall (above) — at least the third in a series — attacks Obama for having "worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers" whose group "killed Americans."

Robocalls are a relatively inexpensive way to deliver a negative message, and used to be seen as an under-the-radar way to do it, though that's no longer really true. The ad comes just hours after McCain dismissed the issue: "I don't care about an old, washed-up terrorist," he said.

The script:

Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's home and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500.

I spoke to women who got the call in Wisconsin and New Mexico, and a Democratic official said they'd also had reports of it in Northern Virginia, Maine, Florida, Missouri, and North Carolina. Other readers report getting the call in Ohio and Indiana. Shaun Dakin has a report from Pennsylvania.

14. Thanks for the link. We have to remember, though,
that there are different kinds of efforts.

I still don't believe they won't try to steal MI, for example. There's a Thug SOS and unreliable machines.

19. I wouldn't put it past the GOP to TRY to steal in every state.
If only to "set precedent" for the next time!

20. They "shave" votes in a lot of places (to set precedent, exactly) but for this race
they go to black precincts, military and student in swing states.

We know that much.

I hope McSame keeps it up.

By the time he's done, his only support will come from the 25% who still support Bush.

22. Especially in the Internet age. Someone needs to do a video mashup ...
... of this video and McCain's comments from last night's debate and his earlier promises of running a clean campaign focused on the issues.

I think Karl Rove stole that one right out of Hitler's play book.

21. sidebar: The Weatherman/Weather Underground killed ZERO people w/ their bombings
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 05:14 PM by krkaufman
Ok, a quick google confirmed my impression... that the Weather Underground bombings killed ZERO people. The only people to have died as a result of The Weathermen's turn away from the civil disobedience approach were 3 members of the group, itself. (It was after this fortunate accident that The Weathermen went underground, becoming The Weather Underground.)
Clinton said "people died" in 1970s bombings by a radical group of which an Obama acquaintance was a member. In fact, the deaths were of three members of the Weather Underground itself, who died when their own bombs accidentally exploded.

Sounds like Hillary Clinton should be on the leading edge of fighting back against these smears, since she was similarly mistaken earlier in the campaign and can explain her misunderstanding of the issue.

answering machine picked it up, and I listened for a second before hanging up the phone and deleting the message. The content is exactly what the OP says. I'm in Missouri, by the way.

25. TPM is reporting another call - Obama Denied Babies Medical Care
Latest McCain Robocall Alleges That Obama Denied Babies Medical Care
By Greg Sargent - October 16, 2008, 4:23PM

We've obtained yet another McCain campaign robocall, and this one levels perhaps the nastiest charge yet: It claims that Barack Obama callously denied newborns needed medical attention by opposing a measure to force doctors to preserve their lives when they survive botched abortions.

The call, which was sent in by a North Carolina reader, labels Obama "extreme" and to the left of Hillary, and charges Obama doesn't "share our values."

The call concerns the now-notorious Illinois legislation -- opposed by Obama -- that would have required doctors to provide life-saving care to such newborns.

Script:

I'm calling on behalf of John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama and his Democrat allies in the Illinois Senate opposed a bill requiring doctors to care for babies born alive after surviving attempted abortions -- a position at odds even with John Kerry and Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama and his liberal Democrats are too extreme for America. Please vote -- vote for the candidates who share our values. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202 863 8500.

26. This is backfiring
This is turning off all but the idiots in their base -- who will vote for them no matter what.

This will drive independents into the Dem camp and Republicans into the independent camp.

Four years from now, the pundits will be talking about "Obama Republicans."
