Duncan Hunter's earmarks benefit his son
Source: Washington Times

Defense contractors who received millions of dollars in government earmarks arranged by Rep. Duncan Hunter are now helping to fill the campaign coffers of his son, who is seeking the San Diego-area congressional seat being vacated by his father after 28 years, records show.

Officials at several companies that benefited from the pet project spending requests that the veteran Republican lawmaker inserted into often-unrelated legislation have contributed more than $30,000 to the front-running campaign of his son, Duncan D. Hunter, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) records.

As chairman of the Armed Services Committee until Democrats took control of the House in 2006, Mr. Hunter - who announced his retirement in May - has unabashedly attached earmarks to spending bills during his 14 terms in Congress. He listed the earmarks on his House Web page as "funding initiatives."

In contrast to promises by Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain of Arizona to hold members of Congress accountable for earmarks and to "veto every pork-barrel earmark spending bill that comes across my desk," Mr. Hunter and his son embrace the practice - particularly for making military budgets.

2. The title is misleading, sorry.
As disgusting and vile as Duncan Hunter is, what you wrote makes it sound like Duncan Hunter wrote earmarks that were given to businesses run by his son. Which is not true. OF COURSE the beneficiaries of so much largesse would want to pour money into the candidacy of a son guaranteed to be as crooked as the father. But if they only give him the legal amount, it's legal.

There's nothing here. And, as long as the people of California choose to be fools voting against their own self interest, they will.

7. Lumpkin
is in my district against Hunter, Jr. I put up a sign out in front of my house for Lumpkin for 3 weeks back in the primaries, it was taken down during the night of the actual primary, I assumed the Lumpkin campaign took it by dawns early light. I have not received a thank you call for displaying this sign and to where is it?

I have not neard from the Lumpkin campaign. I will be voting for him, but I dont know anymore. Hunter Junior is on my ballot, but as I have said I will be voting for Lumpkin. Forget the San Diego Union, we have had it delivered for the last 41 years, and they will endorese McCain or a STICK as long as it is a republican for President. The newspaper is now paper thin and they wonder why they lose people because San Diego is almost blue but they continue to spout republican tripe. If they would turn into an independent newspaper, they might make some money and sell more newspapers - but no on November 4th the paper will vote for McCain. The San Diego Union sucks and will not print any press towards a democrat unless the Union can trash him or her, just like our City Attorney, they trash him night and day and I will be voting for him. End of rant.
