Women Against Sarah Palin Speak Out
Source: ABC News

ABC News' Julia Hoppock reports: With recent polls suggesting that women are flocking to the McCain/Palin ticket, there is a growing chorus of female voices who want to put a stop to this trend, and fast.

Two women in New York felt so strongly that Palin was the wrong choice they created a blog called "Women Against Sarah Palin" and are using the site to post emails from women who write in from all over the country about why they think Palin is the wrong choice as for Vice President and the wrong choice for American women.

"We felt as though McCain's choice was this kind of way to automatically grab female voters and we found that assumption was very insulting to our intelligence as female voters in America," said Lyra Kilston, a 31 year old art magazine editor in New York who helped create the blog.

Shortly after Palin's selection, Kilston and her co-worker Quinn Latimer, citing what they saw as 'mounting disbelief, fury and dread' among their female friends over the selection of Sarah Palin, sent out an email to forty of their friends soliciting reaction the Alaska Governor's nomination for their blog. The women also asked the recipients to forward the email to everyone they knew so that others could do the same.

I havent posted there yet but I think on the main page you go to the link on the right "Women Against Palin" which takes you to: http://womenagainstpalin.com/

more good information there. Then go to their forum link on the bottom, or: http://womenagainstpalin.com/Forum.html

here you can post or view message (on the right). I think this might be where they get their highlighted responses that show up on the blog. Or contact them directly.

95. that's very profound, isn't it?
If there really are Hillary voters who are switching to McCain simply because his running mate has two X chromosomes, that way of looking at Palin might just sway them. Because Kay J. is 100% right about how Hillary absolutely bloodied herself in the campaign, only to have to watch Palin sail onto the Republican ticket SOLELY because Hillary had been in the race, without doing a speck of heavy lifting on her own.

9. Let's put it this way ...
My friends and I have ALL contributed to the blog, and we just keep forwarding it on.

One young woman I work with said yesterday, "Sarah Palin scares the sh*t out of me. She stands to reverse every gain women have made in the past 40 years."

I think many younger women get it. And I know all of my boomer friends DEFINITELY get it.

pro-choice that tell me that she is the scariest person that has ever ran for that office. Of course, they are also Obama supporters. But now since this woman came on the scene they are more desperate to push his candidacy. May the powers that be help us it the mccain/palin ticket is cheated into the WH in November. (Googled " a time for a revolution" and got the following song. ?)

A Time for a Revolution

Written by Matt Code

Verse 1
Caught in the ropes
no one questions the complaints
the sinners have the power
while the saints they are the prey

this is the season
it’s our time and place
there is a reason
and the reason has shown its face

Verse 2
The powers should be mortified
When the people catch their lies
Cause It doesn’t just take a gun
To keep freedoms that were won

There is no need for vengeance
It’s just a simple recall
The laws they create them
but if they could they’d break them all

Bridge
Freedom may not be free
Or so they say
But Only those in power
Have the power to take it away

Wanting to know it
Willing to fight
Gave cause to show it
Cause now is the time

Chorus
We're on a mission
it’s an interdiction
we must rise up
it’s a time for a revolution

We have our freedom
But there’s corruption
We must rise up
win without destruction

12. While women weren't particulary impressed, another demographic was...
and that is the white male vote.

The female demographic has remained pretty much unchanged towards McCain before and after the Palin VP pick.

However, among white males, his favorability has increased significantly AFTER picking Palin.

So, ladies, target the white males with your emails and tell them why Palin is wrong for you and them as well.

I heard on AAR, the exact opposite. Their info was that some white males have moved to Obama because they see her as either unqualified or some other reason, but they are moving. I am still convinced that she will meltdown when the pressure is on in the debates. I have confidence that Biden will figure out how to make her explode.

17. I just point out to the men who "like" her as a running mate...
... that more than likely it's because she's got that large family mothering aspect to her and subconsciously men think she's going to be a good babysitter for an aging man who's clearly too old to be running for office (and having plenty of senior moments). They usually look shocked for a moment, then laugh. Because basically it's true. Gov. Palin = Eldersitter in the eyes of most people, whether they can admit it or not.

109. Add to that her stances on health care.
The record is a little fuzzy, but basically Palin seems to fall on the side of those who believe deregulation and the free market will provide affordable health care (You may pause here to throw up, laugh, or cry).

http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Sarah_Palin_Health_Care.htm

I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies.

This is the exact opposite of national health insurance plan advocate Harry Truman, who was invoked in Palin's RNC speech.

McCain himself has echoed much of the Bush administration spin on health care -- i.e., that cutting people loose from the employer-provided model will empower consumers and the the market will take care of affordability issues.

And McCain advocates medical savings accounts, which strikes me as a damned stupid notion to put forth before the American people when said people's disposable income is going down thanks to high fuel prices and other cost of living expenses.

http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htm

When families are informed about medical choices, they are more capable of making their own decisions and often decide against unnecessary options. Health Savings Accounts take an important step in the direction of putting families in charge of what they pay for.

Again, putting people at the mercy of the market, invoking responsibility and empowerment while advocating changing the tax code in a way that will likely cause many to lose coverage -- that's the sort of thing we're looking at with the McCain campaign. It's more of what Bush tried and failed to do.

21. They won't post my comment...
The site says it looks like spam!

Does this look like spam to you? (The opening line is a quote from another person's post.)

Obama said on a newscast Sunday "my Muslim faith" and the commentator corrected him to 'my Christian faith'. Why did he correct him? Posted by: linedancer | Sep 12, 2008 12:55:31 AM

The quote was taken out of context. Obama, who is a Christian, was commenting on the rumors that are being spewed around haphazardly, declaring him to be something he is not.

Obama was saying that McCain had not jumped on the "Obama is a Muslim" bandwagon. You might want to listen to the conversation which surrounded that comment for clarification. You can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQqIpdBOg6I

She doesn't appeal to me as anything. I think men are the ones that think she is hot. There has to be more to a Vice President than looking alright in a bathsuit. I can only hope and pray Everyone wakes up to what she Really Is and the threat she would be in that high office. If they think she is hot, is that going to help us when McCain dies in office and SHE (Oh GOD) becomes our president. I am serious in saying I am having nightmares in my sleep over this terrible Vice President Pick.

36. ...there is a growing chorus of female voices who want to put a stop to this trend, and fast.
With that phrase ABC makes the opposition to Palin sound like it's some plot to sabotage Palin's campaign just because.

Maybe the opposition has some legitimate reasons to speak out against a Palin vice presidency or presidency. Maybe you dumb asses in the media are so busy fawning over her being a moose hunter, finishing third in a beauty contest and having a 'blessed event' from her teenage daughter's pregnancy, that some people are saying "ENOUGH!" and are attempting to get people to take a realistic look at this woman's qualifications, or lack thereof.

If the media gerbils were doing their job, the dialogue in this country would have been around the fact that she was a mayor of a hick town in the middle of nowhere two years ago; she was governor of a state that does not have the financial crises that most states currently have because they're riding the wave of the oil markets and they don't have the investment in infrastructure that other states have. Plus, they have the highest per-capita rate of receiving federal dollars in the nation.

When he touted her "experience" as mayor of a small town in Bumphuque, Alaska...

Being a mayor is hard work...there's potholes to be filled, garbage to be picked up, etc.

To which I'd like to add...being governor of a state with more caribou than humans must also be very difficult and would certainly qualify her to run the country someday if McCain, should he be elected, were to be incapacitated or become somewhat more dead than he is now.

49. did it ever occur that the best strategy
might just be to ignore her.

For Christ's sake, the woman's life is fucking over. She's only 44 years old and has 5 kids, and she's being sacrificed. Let her alone. She barely graduated from college.

STOP IT.

50. That might work if the media would ignore her. However thanks to the media, if one didn't know
better, and probably a lot of people don't, one would think that Obama is running against Palin.

51. then that is
Obama's fault, as much as I want him to be the next President.

For someone who is highly educated and experienced, I don't understand how, under any circumstances, he could find himself flatfooted against someone so naive in every way. She's a wonderful woman in her own way, but she doesn't deserve consideration beyond that.

because that "strategy" didn't work with Kerry against the Swiftboat attacks in '04

Ignore 'em and they'll just go away....

and we had to live with yet another four years with Chimpy because of it...

Time to stop ignoring things and hoping they'll just sweep themselves under the rug. This is politics...not yer granny's tea party with cute little cucumber sandwiches and everyone making nicey-nice with white gloves on...

for staying above the fray. No need to abandon it now. Stick to beating McCain. As I heard Paul Begala say somewhere this morning, no need to rapid respond ; rapid attack.

62. That's just insane and incorrect
When she fails to become Veep, she will still be Govenor of AK, and she will make millions from book deals and the like. If that is a life that is over, well, most folk should be so over.
Ignoring the prime draw of the opopsition ticket is simply not an option, for those of us who want her defeated that is.
Do you think Biden should refuse to debate her? Maybe if he does she will vanish is a flurry of snow and ice?

52. Neo-con Puppet Barbie, peaked at the RNC Convention
I've talked to a strong Hillary support the other day

she wasn't very happy about Obama being the nominee. But she absolutely was insulted by McCain picking Sarah Palin as a VP.

After last nights interview with Gibson I really believe Palin had her peak at the conventtion.
It became very clear she is unintelligible on foreign policy and she was just parroting Noe-con talking points.

Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 08:29 AM by AlbertCat
FLOCKING? not herding or maybe stampeding? How about charging is an hysterical frenzy?

It doesn't suggest there might be a slight bump in women for Palin but instead that throngs of women are rushing to change their minds.... y'know FLOCKING.

And it only suggests...doesn't actually show anything for certain.

This type of stupid language should be a red flag to everyone.

Any legitimate criticism, anything the Obama campaign throws at her, anything negative is derided as being "disrespectful" and sexism. How the fuck is she going to deal with world leaders, many of whom won't think twice about being hard on her, if she can't take a little rough-and-tumble campaigning?

Whine on, Scary Palin.

Edit: Oh, yeah, she'll probably just want to bomb the shit out of any country if its leaders don't "defer" to her.

Stated how she has men cry "sexism" for her against legitimate questions about her record, pointing out that if she were a truly strong women capable of leading a nation as complex as the United States, she would proudly stand up for her own record, and not need "men" to defend her against non existing personal attacks.

And that if she doesn't even understand the difference between a personal attack and a legitimate question about her record to begin with then she is not capable of being President.

I also said she is weakening the charge of sexism by using it disingenously. That makes it an insult to women who are actually victims of it, who have lossed their jobs because of it, and her false claims make people take the term "sexism" less seriously.

And I closed by saying she is not working for women but against women by standing in the way of equal pay for equal work and paraphrased Lloyd Benson to conclude, "Sarah Palin you are no Hillary Clinton."

One Week Later
Dear readers,

It's been one week since we sent out a letter to a few friends and family members asking them to respond to Sarah Palin's candidacy for Vice President. We had never done anything like this before. What motivated us? It's pretty simple: we were tired of feeling angry and helpless. We were thrilled to receive the first 100 letters in reply. Their eloquence and passion were inspiring, their rage and frustration palpable. Our disbelief began to mount as those 100 letters turned into 1,000 letters, which then turned into 10,000 letters. And as we sit here writing you now, we have reached nearly 100,000 letters.

..........

http://womenagainstsarahpalin.blogspot.com/2008/09/one-week-later.html

Sincerely,

Quinn L. and Lyra K.

81. I was really disgusted by Tweety yesterday..
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 09:56 AM by Journalgrrl
He was talking over video of SP meeting & greeting people, saying "just look at how happy they are, just to see her!" :puke:

This is NOT a miss america pageant...I want our leaders to be well versed in the workings of Government ("just what does the VP DO everyday?") and to know that our global energy crisis means drastic changes in our world ("I'm not sure humans have been the cause of Global Warming") and know how to play hardball with leaders of the Taliban, Iran, and all the ME players.. (not, "I'm a hockey mom")

This woman SCARES me. she is the antithesis of everything we have been struggling against for the past 40 years or more. She says you can have 5 kids and sill work hard....she will take away our rights for maternity leave, she will take away our freedom of CHOICE, she has no respect for victims of domestic violence or rape...

I'd like to personally give her a peice of my mind, bitch!

What's happening is they're energizing the women who would have voted republican anyway. They had no intention of voting for Obama, but it was widely reported that the repubs were "unenthusiastically supporting McCain"

The media just loves to make up these little fairy tales to sell advertising.

96. Fantastic!
I wrote as soon as I heard about this site on Tuesday... saying that Palin is AGAINST everything women have fought so hard for - and FOR all that we have fought against. And that my concern for the future of humanity and the planet means that there is NO WAY that, as a woman with daughters and granddaughters I could EVER vote for this "woman"!

How *any* woman could do so - even if all one considers is her ruthless desire for *killing* (whether it be shooting Alaskan wolves from helicopters or preemptive war, while claiming to be adamantly "pro-life" - is beyond comprehension. I weep  for the hypocrisy and dearth of *real* human values in our electorate! :nuke:

Peace.
