Palin offers details about Troopergate
Source: AP, Yahoo

By STEVE QUINN, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has gone on the offensive trying to blunt negative fallout from the so-called Troopergate investigation. Palin says in a legal filing that she wants the state's personnel board to review the allegations surrounding her firing of the former public safety commissioner.

The legislature already is investigating Palin's firing of Walt Monegan for allegedly failing to dismiss a trooper who went through a messy divorce with Palin's sister before she ran for governor.

Before Palin was named to the GOP ticket, the legislature launched a $100,000 investigation into whether Palin abused her power in firing Monegan.

Earlier this week, Palin's attorney questioned the jurisdiction of the legislative probe, saying the matter belongs before the personnel board.

1. Interesting, her own state legslature is investigating her over abuse of power
and has been since before the GOP nomination.

2. Funny thing is. The personnel board is under her control.

She totally fits in with the current administration - always investigating themselves - and never finding any wrongdoing.

3. And if they did admit any wrongdoing (ala Gonzo) they would say
it wasn't worth prosecuting - just an innocent mistake

9. Exactly. (just what I posted, too) However, the filing isn't really about shifting the inquiry...
... it's about delaying the investigation enough to insure that its report doesn't come out before the election.

4. She's the right's Kwame Kilpatrick
Has it occurred to anyone else that Sarah Plain and embattled Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick basically did the same thing?

Each improperly dismissed law-enforcement officials in order to advance a personal agenda. But, while the right (and everyone else) is calling for Kilpatrick's head, the reaction to Palin among Republicans is "it's no big deal."

It's an amazing double standard, when you think about it.

5. I think it's worth mentioning
that people are taking notice of the fact that Palin has been completely out of the public spotlight since Friday afternoon. No attempt for her to address ANY of these allegations, no attempt to try to push through it and stump for her guy McCain.. nothing. She's been completely absent.

Perhaps we know why now. She's been hold up in a room getting the Rovian treatment on how to spin all these issues.

7. Be worried about marrying into this family!
Bristol Palin's fiance', Levi Johnston, must be wetting his pants being forced to marry Sarah's daughter.

If Sarah Palin is this vindictive over the guy who divorced her sister, I shudder to think what she'd do if Levi ever makes Bristol cry.

10. From what I know, the sister is the one who filed for divorce
and I think that one of the things they were most concerned about was an alleged death threat he made against their father.

I know you're making a joke of the comparison, but I just want to clarify that this isn't just about a messy divorce -- they had real charges against the brother in low, who seems to be a real jerk.

And Sarah completely abused her power of office when she tried to deal with it "her way" -- they're all a bunch of nuts imho.

14. They could have had him arrested then.
Well, then, if he did make a death threat against her father, then the Gov could have easily and LEGALLY had him arrested for making a death threat against the family of the Governor.

That would have been worse than just trying to get someone high up in the police force to fire him.

8. The article seems to ignore the fact that the "personnel board" is appointed by Palin ...
... and she has a documented history of loyalty-based firings. Not exactly a change from the Bush Administration approach there, J-Mac.

Terrorist attacks in Israel are God's punishment to Jews who
don't convert to Christ, speaker at Palin's church says in her
presence

Holy crap.

...just two weeks ago, when Palin’s church, the Wasilla
Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with
deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner,
the founder of Jews for Jesus.

Palin’s pastor, Larry Kroon, introduced Brickner on Aug.
17, according to a transcript of the sermon on the church’s
website.

“He’s a leader of Jews for Jesus, a ministry that is out
on the leading edge in a pressing, demanding area of
witnessing and evangelism,” Kroon said.

Brickner then explained that Jesus and his disciples were
themselves Jewish.

“The Jewish community, in particular, has a difficult time
understanding this reality,” he said.
Brickner’s mission has drawn wide criticism from the
organized Jewish community, and the Anti-Defamation League
accused them in a report of “targeting Jews for conversion
with subterfuge and deception.”

Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as
God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't
embraced Christianity.

"Judgment is very real and we see it played out on
the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It's very
real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to
witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a
Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went
plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people.
Judgment — you can't miss it."

Palin was in church that day, Kroon said, though he
cautioned against attributing Brickner’s views to her.

Don't forget that McCain was more than happy to join in the
fray over Rev. Wright's obnoxious comments. So let's not hear
the McCain campaign cry foul over an examination of Sarah
Palin's church.
