Conservative Party shuts Spencer out (homophobe Cdn MP) Globe and Mail
http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040204.wspencer0402/BNStory/National/

The Conservative Party of Canada caucus has decided former Canadian Alliance MP Larry Spencer is not welcome in the new party.

Mr. Spencer was fired as the Alliance's family-issues critic and suspended from caucus in November after he told the Vancouver Sun that he would happily support an initiative to make homosexual acts illegal, as they were until 1969.

“If somebody brought a bill in the House to do that, I'd certainly vote for it," he was quoted as saying.

The Saskatchewan MP also said he would support legislation banning consensual sex between same-sex partners and he linked gays with pedophilia.

1. serves him right
Guess he didn't realize that conservative politicians are only suppose to pander to homophobia with hints.

6. Yeah, my poor attempt at a joke was to say
'don't ask, don't tell' about barely-concealed right-wing homophobia. An ironic juxtaposition, but perhaps not that funny in retrospect.

7. Nice to know we're on the same page
Its also nice to know that in Canada, homophobia has to disquise itself. The intolerance that dare not speak its name.

8. I live near his Klavern...
Today on a local talkshow his supporters were accusing the 'new' Conservative party of being TOOOO liberal just to get elected??!!...(heh)
and HE was misquoted...
and the more HIGH TONE types were suggesting that the NEW PARTY should seek to accommodate 'social conservatives' like Stockboy Day, Spencer, Moore, Elsie, Pankiw ad infinitum

As a NDP supporter, I think they SHOULD reconsider their decision

9. If Harper doesn't win the leadership, I see a lot of these extremists
just staying at home on May 10th. And that means a lot of NDP seats in the west.

10. If Harper loses the leadership, after the election
we should expect the birth of Reform Party, Mark II. All that Western - well, really pretty much just Albertan now - alienation will have to go somewhere. And it won't be satisfied by Stronach or Clement.

11. Strangely enough, though I certainly wouldn't deny Alberta's right-wing
credentials, I suspect the BC interior is, if anything, more reactionary. That makes me feel worse than about Alberta. I expect my home province to hold nonsensical beliefs, but it's infinitely sadder when others share them!

12. BC Interior is very reactionary
Maybe even more so than Alberta in some respects as many parts of the Prairies have a 'rural' anchor.

The BC Interior (OKanagan) is full of self-described 'refugees' from Vancouver fleeing all manna of Big City decadence--from Asians influx to those 'lifestyle' types.

Many consider the Interior their lonely last stand against the 'deviates'
