McCain Campaign Mocks Obama as Messianic in Web Video
Edited on Fri Aug-01-08 03:16 PM by RedEarth
Source: abc

In case you were wondering if Sen. John McCain was going to end the week on a note of substance and the kind of high-minded politics the presumptive GOP nominee said he would like to see in this campaign, a new web video indicates that wasn't in the cards.

A new web video called "The One" mocks Obama as messianic, using some of Obama's words against him -- some fairly and others unfairly. The ad even juxtaposes Obama with a scene from The Ten Commandments, with Charlton Heston, as Moses, parting the Red Sea.

1. Unfortunately for him, you cannot run a campaign against Hope and expect to win.
Fuck off, McCain.

And "focusing on the issues"?

7. Yep, this is for the "Rapture" crowd
showing him as the anti-christ they have been waiting for...shouldn't this help him with them, since they want to rush the Rapture? Doesn't the anti-christ have to come into power to bring about the Rapture?

9. From what I remember, he comes into power for 7 years and in the middle of the 7 years
he breaks the covenant. It's somewhere in between that they believe they'll be raptured up before the worst of it. But the only thing I'd be looking for is the key to knowing who it's supposed to be--someone who makes peace with the world and sets up his "throne" in a rebuilt 3rd temple in Jerusalem--but that hasn't happened yet! So I don't see how they think he's the anti=Christ and that the rapture is near. Yeah.

(sidenote: I've been taught rapture theory but I don't believe it. I'm one who believes everyone will have to go through ALL the hard times to the end.)

Just a little information for those of you unknowing of what the Christian right is being taught.

8. At first it shocked me as a Christian and I felt ill but the more I internalize this--
I really think this is going to backfire with the rest of the public especially since McCain said he was going to run a clean campaign. Some Christians don't think for themselves--all they know is the interpretations of what their pastor tells them and they memorize and know the scriptures. For these types, it may scare them into voting for McCain but it I don't think it will go over very well with the rest...especially independents.

20. Someone commented at the link
that his priest was very upset at Moses being in the ad.

Other commenters were asking if Dobson or any of the other spokespersons for the evangelicals will speak out about the use of Moses in a satirical ad. I don't know a single fundamentalist who has a sense of humor, so I am wondering how the fundamentalists will react.

I don't think so. But, apparently, McCain wants to find out for certain.

15. Looks like McSame's Rovian handlers were watching
The Daily Show and Obama's Excellent Adventure (European Tour) or whatever Jon called it.

I liked Cafferty's comment last night that McInsain uses negativity against Obama something like 70% of the time, but 90% of Obama's ads *do not mention McInsain.*

If the dark side wants to mock the fact that most people see Obama as the One, it's not going to change my opinion of Obama as an incredibly thoughtful, SANE candidate with a hell of a lot more integrity than that old geezer who thinks he's a stand up comedian. Just compare the two acceptance speeches. I know, there was no comparison, because Barack's was full of integrity, hope, and solutions and the geezer's was stand up "comedy", insults and war mongering.
If the geezer can't remember the names of countries, or the fact that he "pledged himself to a positive campaign", well, to hell with him.

Are the repukes still talking in the dark at the capitol?
Somebody tell them it's time to go home; the adults have adjourned and gone home.

18. McCain (McAbel's brother?) says the ad is meant to be humorous
Heard that on the BBC tonight.

Well John, am I the only one who thinks you look too much like Don Rickles to be taken seriously as a Presidental candidate? Will your running mate be Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog? (No offense to Don or Trimumph - probably sweet-hearts off stage). John, is your campaign a show or is this the real you?
