Gregg votes against heating aid bill he sponsored
Source: Union Leader

U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg joined fellow Republicans yesterday in blocking the Senate from considering a bill next week that would nearly double federal aid to help the poor pay heating and air-conditioning bills.

Gregg is a sponsor of the bill.

Gregg said he voted against considering the bill to help ensure the Senate does not postpone addressing the skyrocketing costs of oil and energy. The Senate's focus, he said, should be on debating the energy speculation bill and a comprehensive energy plan to reduce energy prices through increased oil and gas exploration and conservation.

In a statement released by his office, the state's senior senator said, "People in New Hampshire and in other cold weather states are rightfully concerned as we head into the winter about how they are going to pay their heating bills as the costs have jumped dramatically in the last year. I believe very strongly that the best way to address the issue of making energy affordable for low-income and middle-income people in New Hampshire, and throughout our nation, is boosting more American production and increasing conservation. Only by addressing the basic laws of supply and demand will Congress help bring down the price of energy."

7. You have the correct answer!
If anyone has watched this debate on 'oil speculation'(C-Span), which the Democrats have said is only a part of what needs to be fixed, they would see how the Repukes are under orders from the oil industry to have the whole thing focus on more drilling areas opened. They could care less if they don't have enough refineries to handle the extra oil if they could do it tomorrow. Bush & the rest of the crooks want all areas opened before Jan 20, 2009.

2. That's what Ronald Reagan said,
"time to tighten the belts" (a paraphrase from memory) when addressing the people on TV news I happened to be watching some decades ago. Not sure why it stuck in my mind.

3. It's hard for me to understand
These rethugs basically screw over their own people, and yet they get reelected. What is it that makes people in these states, especially Northeastern states, keep these slime balls in office. On that same note, do you think that Connecticut voters have learned their lesson?

5. When do we officially become a 3rd world country?
The US is now so clearly behind actual first world countries in many ways, but have we made the jump to the community of 3rd world countries yet? Poor people in the US have been getting heating oil from Venezuela for years now, for christ's sake. What sort of state is our economy in where we need foreign aid from Venezuela?! Have these people no shame? (ok, I know that's a rhetorical question - of course they have no shame)

8. I'll be interested in seeing what the vote was
The article said it got 50 votes for, with..."a dozen Senate Republicans support the measure..."

What f**king idiots (from our party) did not vote yes? 49 Dems, Bernie Sanders and 12 republikkans is 62.

In addition, Sununu voted yes on the bill.
How will this play out in NH?

13. This character - my illustrious representative - has got to be
one of the biggest assholes walking the face of the earth. What's he care about heat for the poor? He's rich. He was rich to begin with, then the bastard won nearly a million bucks in the lottery. There's no use emailing him, either. It amounts to nothing. Zero. Just wait . . . the bodies will be stacked up like cordwood this winter.
