1. Busy day today

First the police station in Mosul, and now this.

This a classic war of resistance!

In 1965 there was a bombing at the My Cahn restaurant which was on a barge in the Saigon River. 29 killed, including 8 Americans, 100 wounded.

Iraq is another Vietnam! The Iraq War Resolution is another Tonkin Gulf Resolution.

The fact that the Democratic frontrunner went to Vietnam because of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution, and nearly 40 years later ends up voting for the similar Iraq War Resolution, speaks volumes as to how quickly we forget the lessons of history.

Americans are xenophobic, they will believe their own people rather than the adversary, even a friendly enemy voice.

The Mayberry Machiavelli's need oil and big SUV's. Vietnam was all about tungsten and keeping the steel mills alive. And keeping communism in check. Right?

He sounds good on some of the issues, but I'm quite wary of him for some gut-level reason.

For those who choose bankruptcy of empathy in exchange for "id",...I offer the exchange of "nothingness". The human definition of "id" simply rationalized away our horrible choice to become the consuming and destructive force on this planet (and, please excuse me as I openly admonish Freud with a "fuck you",...you sicker than those you treated, stuck on your hormones,...terror*LOL*).

BAGHDAD - An attack on a U.S. Army convoy travelling between the Iraqi towns of Tikrit and Kirkuk killed three American soldiers, military sources said.

Edit: This off the AP wire:

A military spokesman said an improvised bomb blew up about 25 miles southwest of Kirkuk, near a convoy of the 4th Infantry Division. The spokesman said he had no other details.

I pray for your husband's safe return. My son's high school friend's brother is over there (I don't know which division he's in). He came home for a brief visit and was disgusted with the whole situation. He watched CNN for news of the war and was disgusted at the way they minimized the number of attacks on U.S. compounds. He thinks most Iraqis want the U.S. to leave

Has your husband said anything about what is going on there? Or what he thinks the U.S. should do?

12. After multiple American deaths in an attack
...the press tries to make it sound like the death toll is going down:

<The deaths brought to 364 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in action since the start of the Iraq (news - web sites) war last March. Including non-combat deaths, the toll is 522.>

I'm surprised they didn't say:

1. "These deaths are of no tactical military significance." or

2. "The cause of the explosion was unknown and is under investigation."

Well so far we've been been told of 158 investigations by the Armed Forces into these so called non-combat deaths, and haven't heard the results of a single one. They all go down the black memory hole.

In the meantime, ask any citizen on the street how many are dead , how many civilians are dead, how many soldiers are wounded , how many civilians wounded..
They wont know.
Just as we all knew, Iraq is now a magnet for every person that comes in from every border to get us out. *bUsh admin created more terrorists , just as we knew he and his cabal would, by forcing the PNAC agenda. Our kids are sitting ducks.
Wanna know what infuriates me? Watching the Congress on C Span, laughing and talking as they make pompous speeches about this n that, all the while our kids are sitting there being blown to bits.
No one seems to care.

I would like to think that deep inside the people who supported this president and this war are feeling guilty. I have a sense that GOPers are jumping ship, seen a couple of posts here and info there (the new Hampshire GOP primary results) that indicate * is toast. But we simply cant wait a whole year.

33. I do care!
It may appear that people don't care but they do
if you tell them about the troops.

The mainstream media is not letting us know
what is going on. So we have to inform one another.

People do care once they know.

That's whay I'm collecting signatures for an
ANSWER(Act Now to Stop the War and End Racism)
to "Bring the Troops Home NOW" petition.

And the politicians will start caring when they
see 1000s of signed petition to Bring the Troops Home Now.

This weekend I'm collecting signatures at one of the local theatres and at a March in support of SoCal's striking grocery workers.

I will add your powerful testimonies on this
threat to inform people what's happening to our troops.

So far practically everyone I talk to wants the troops home.

Add my prayers to the list.

P.S.
With all our prayers, the Christian Right has nothing on us.

25. Look at it this way
Edited on Sat Jan-31-04 11:37 AM by markses
One month from today, there will be 35-40 (and maybe more) American soldiers - young men and women in their prime of life, healthy, with families, friends and colleagues, full of love and laughter - who will be dead. Dead. Because of this war. Almost a guarantee at this point. These will be the February dead - the first February dead, and one can only hope the only February dead.

Think of them now, nervously fingering a trigger, or relaxing on a berm, or playing soccer with some kids, or reading a magazine. See them sitting in their cots, or scanning the deadly horizon, or writing a letter. They will be dead before the end of the month. LOOK INTO THEIR FACES. That's a sad vision, indeed.

The motherfucker hasn't scarfed them up yet, so their eyes still light up the desert, their boots still mark the city streets with a history of movement. But the motherfucker has its days and nights, its hours and its averages. The motherfucker says one thing:

TIME IS ON MY SIDE.

44. Nine killed in bomb attack on Iraq police
Twelve people died and at least 50 were injured yesterday in two attacks by Iraqi insurgents in northern Iraq.

A car bomb killed nine and injured 45 at a police station in the northwestern city of Mosul in the latest of a series of suicide strikes on coalition forces or their local allies. Near the restive oil-rich city of Kirkuk in the northeast of the country, three US soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division died when a roadside bomb ripped through their convoy. A total of 522 US soldiers have so far been killed in the Iraq conflict, 364 in combat.

Witnesses in Mosul, Iraq's third largest city, said a suicide attacker drove through a barricade in front of the police station before blowing up his vehicle. The attacks came on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Thanks for all your kind words the past couple days. Waiting is the worst part. I finally heard from him just a bit ago. As of now, there are a total of 526 dead and it just never seems to let up.

To answer those who asked how he feels about the whole war, he and most of the troops are outraged. The reason you do not hear soldiers speak up about the situation or their disgust with * is because they are afraid of a court martial. My husband called * a moron under his breath a while ago and was threatened with demotion.

Thank you all. :grouphug:

58. God, I wish the soldiers would just go on a mass strike.
If they could just disobey orders -- get in their vehicles and just leave Iraq. If they could just refuse to be used like this. If a Ghandi would emerge to organize them and the Iraqis to refuse to play out the corporate nazis game plan. Imagine the soldiers just saying NO and leaving -- escorted by huge numbers of Iraqis. Maybe if enough of us Imagine NO MORE WAR we can make a new reality.
