Software problems bug Apple's launch of new iPhone (AP)
Source: AP

NEW YORK - Apple Inc.'s new iPhone went on sale Friday to eager buyers worldwide, but there were problems getting the phones to work.

Kenny Pichardo, 24, was the first to buy an iPhone 3G at an AT&T store in the New York borough of Queens, but he said it took the store half an hour to get the phone activated.

That boded badly for the approximately 70 people after him in line. Pichardo had camped out overnight to be first.

A spokesman for AT&T Inc., the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the U.S., said there was a global problem with Apple Inc.'s iTunes servers that prevented the phones from being fully activated in-store, as had been planned.....

My question is, where are all of these twenty-somethings getting 600$ to buy the first iphone?? And graduate students to boot.

6. It cites one guy; Alex Cavallo, 24
who knows, maybe he has a trust fund. The rest of the article is about the new iPhone, which is competitively priced against everything else on the market.

17. Not true
I saved $10/mo by switching from my Blackberry to my iPhone a few months ago. Best phone decision I ever made.

14. What about Nick?
The majority of people that I see with iphones are twenty-somethings who are either in-school or barely out of school so this is not a surprise.

"Nick Epperson, a 24-year-old grad student, spent the night outside an AT&T store in Atlanta, keeping his cheer up with bags of Doritos, three games of Scrabble and two packs of cigarettes. Asked why he was waiting in line, he responded simply "Chicks dig the iPhone."

3. Do NOT install 2.0 now...
I've been trying for over an hour to install version 2.0 to the old IPhone.
The Apple servers are overwhelmed & people are having a difficult time getting
their phone completely updated.

I am now the proud owner of an IBrick until the system catches up.

9. LOL Really....
...having recently switched to a Mac from a PC, I'd have to say that Macs have just as many problems and vulnerabilities as PCs. Having said that though, Macs being the smaller footprint in the world have less people out there trying to attack them.

16. That's why I updated mine yesterday before it got officially released. They always put the new
firmwares out a few days before a public release, you have to do little searching on the Apple servers, but it's always out there early.

15. An iTunes software update came out yesterday.
The info on the upgrade stated that it was some kind of fix for compatibility with the iPhone.
