Venezuela Reports Clash with Armed Colombian Group

Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan warplanes strafed a jungle zone near the Colombian border on Thursday to drive back a column of armed fighters who had crossed over and clashed with a National Guard patrol, a senior officer said.

There were no casualties among the Venezuelan troops but it was the most serious incident this year on the Venezuelan side of the volatile border. Seven Venezuelan National Guards were killed in December in two ambushes blamed by local commanders on right-wing Colombian paramilitaries.
