McCain Proposes Trip To Iraq With Obama - Says He'd Seize "Opportunity To Educate" Obama
Source: CBS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (CBS) ― Republican John McCain on Monday sharply criticized Democratic rival Barack Obama for not having been to Iraq since 2006, and said they should visit the war zone together.

"Look at what happened in the last two years since Senator Obama visited and declared the war lost," the GOP presidential nominee-in-waiting told The Associated Press in an interview, noting that the Illinois senator's last trip to Iraq came before the military buildup that is credited with curbing violence.

"He really has no experience or knowledge or judgment about the issue of Iraq and he has wanted to surrender for a long time," the Arizona senator added. "If there was any other issue before the American people, and you hadn't had anything to do with it in a couple of years, I think the American people would judge that very harshly."

(snip)

"For him to talk about dates for withdrawal, which basically is surrender in Iraq after we're succeeding so well is, I think, really inexcusable," said McCain, who has been to Iraq eight times, most recently in March.

4. I still think we should just drop
McCain, Bush and Cheney into Baghdad and let them govern the mess they've made over there.
without body armor and just a couple weapons....I think they owe it to us to clean up the mess...and since McCain says we're so successful, I'm sure it's completely safe.

33. Now that sounds like
a good solid suggestion for those three "I'm patriotic as hell and those against this war is anti-america" assholes. With all the experience McCain has disobeying higher up commands (because HE knows what is best) he's sure to win this war single handed.:sarcasm:

35. yeah, each time I hear him
chiding Obama to go to Iraq with him, so he can "teach" him something I yell at the TV (yeah, the family loves that..) How long do they really think they can fool us that things are going GREAT over there? I really want them to somehow be held responsible for what they've done to all of us--and our country.

5. Well, let's see...what can McCain teach Obama about Iraq?
That Al-Qaeda from Iran are helping Iraqi Shiite insurgents? Oh, wait, that's not right....McCain simply claimed that. Lieberman had to educate him on that point?

What else could McCain teach Obama about Iraq? How to take a leisurely stroll in Baghdad while wearing body armor and being escorted by heavily armed soldiers?

Maybe he could bring Obama up on the difference between Shia and Sunni.

McCain would have to learn a lot about Iraq to educate Obama on it.

McCain is a wanker.

I don't know that Obama should take a trip to Iraq with McCain, but I think he should unequivocally set the record straight about 'wanting to surrender' and McCain's mischaracterization.

13. And I am sure MCCain is a military genuis too -
For God's sake - He is just a lowly LT -

He couldn't command anything in terms of a war.

Come on you democrats - not just democrats - competent military commanders -

Where are you command guys - this is just a LT - who I am sure can't even pronounce Clausewitz, Jomini, Xenophon, Hart - the true masters of war - all the things you (commanders) guys supposedly mastered??

Speak up - this country is listening very hard!

18. Is this the same McCain who marveled at how "safe" Iraq was?
Edited on Tue May-27-08 08:05 PM by bulloney
at which time he was walking the streets in a bulletproof vest while hundreds of soldiers and a couple of Blackhawk helicopters protecting him?

The same McCain who was ranting about al Quaeda in Iran training insurgents fighting U.S. soldiers in Iraq, only to be corrected by Lieberman?

I would say McCain has all of the credibility of a kleptomaniac in a jewelry store when it comes to Iraq (or anything else for that matters).

and now he's an expert? Didn't Joe Lieberman have to buy him a clue the last time he opened his mouth about the situation in Iraq?

To my knowledge, Chuck Robb is the only major politician current and/or former to go outside the Green Zone. Chuck Robb can educate Obama ten times better than McShame.

Take your condescending bullcrap and shove it where the sun don't shine Johnny.

And while I'm on the subject of McSame ... I'm really pissed that he told Ellen DeGeneres that "marriage should be between one man and one woman," when McSame dumped his disabled first wife after having a blatant affair with young Cindy for several months (he was 42, Cindy was RICH RICH RICH and 25).

One man and one woman, Senator? Didn't work out so well for you, did it?
