Mathaba News NetworkThe Mathaba news site Mathaba.Net has been blocked inside Libya, hours after articles critical of the Libyan leader's son Sayf al-Islam al-Qaddafi were published.
This is the first time a non-opposition group web site has been blocked inside Libya, and indicates the weak position of Seif Qaddafi who has been boosting his image abroad and at home as a future leader of Libya.

The blocking of Mathaba inside Libya may backfire upon Sayf al-Islam - the eldest son of the Libyan leader - who is taking over power within the country and turning his back on socialism and the Green Book ideology of his father. The online Green Book is also blocked, indicating a now open opposition and hostility to the ideology by Sayf Qaddafi.
Sayf al-Islam has repeatedly called for a free and independent media within Libya, as well as for advancement in human rights. The closure of Mathaba in Libya or the hi-jacking of its pages within the country reveal these calls to be hypocritical and hollow.

The blocking of a pro-revolutionary web site in Libya will also place a test upon western based human rights, press freedom and anti-censorship organisations to prove their neutrality, by reporting on this issue widely and in calling for its reversal.
