Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, "People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."

Robert Kennedy, the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy, was gunned down in 1968 after winning the California primary. He had been a hero on the left for his civil rights agenda and calls to end the war in Vietnam.

I heard something else today that the media did not comment on at all. Obama was in Fla. and he told the people at that rally that Cuba had been under a dictatorship all the days of his life. He said a few more things along the line that they should have democracy. He said that people were imprisoned there because they told the truth.
Then he said: I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT.

So what does that mean? Is he going to invade Cuba if he manages to pander to those Floridians who came from Cuba enough to get into office?

Now his statement was something voters might want to ponder and consider. He was talking about changing the government of another country. Why wasn't that being reported over and over and over and over and over?

These were not two different statements made at two different times, or even two consecutive, unrelated statements. My own take isn't nearly as machiavellian as some. I believe that she was trying to point out that Democratic primary races that last through until June are nothing new. Citing the 1968 primary, though, seems like a really bad choice, and doing so by specifically citing the RFK assassination, is in bad taste, and I believe an apology from Clinton is in order. Of course, that's one thing I like about our party, that our representatives are mature enough to make apologies for their mistakes, unlike certain White House residents I can think of. WASHINGTON (AFP) - Hillary Clinton triggered a firestorm on Friday after bringing up the 1968 assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy to justify her decision to prolong her long-shot White House campaig

A day after a top supporter suggested Clinton was getting desperate and she compared a row over voided primaries in Michigan and Florida to the crisis in Zimbabwe, the former first lady sent new shock waves through the race.

Clinton told a newspaper board in South Dakota she could not understand calls for her to quit, arguing that history showed that some past nominating contests had gone on into June.

"My husband (Bill Clinton) did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary, somewhere in the middle of June, right?" Clinton said in an interview with the Argus Leader newspaper editorial board.

"We all remember, Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California, I don't understand it," Clinton said.
