The View co-host brings up Prescott Bush's Nazi ties
Source: The Raw Story

When host Whoopi Goldberg raised the issue of George W. Bush's comparing anyone who wants to talk to Iran or Syria with the appeasers of Nazi Germany on Monday's edition of ABC's The View, the panel erupted into furious debate.

"The Bush administration is out there talking to North Korea, talking to Syria," noted liberal Joy Behar. "Isn't that what diplomacy is about? This guy doesn't know the difference between the word 'diplomacy' and 'appeasement.' He's just stupid."

"One more point," continued Behar, pulling out a prepared statement. "It's very interesting and ironic that George Bush, Senior's -- er, George Bush, this one -- his grandfather -- this one -- the late -- I don't like to speak ill of the dead, but in this case it's fun -- he was a United States senator, Prescott Bush. Okay -- he was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany."

"This is his grandfather," Behar continued. "He has no business talking to Jewish people when he's got this right in his backyard."

is just how much of this kind of information was available in 2000 and even more so in 2004.

But everybody who wrote a book or had an internet site on the BFEE was just another part of the lunatic fringe.

George Bush was protected at all costs by the empire loving, truth-hating MSM. Anything remotely sordid or unsavory was sanitized and buried all the way to China with a deliberate vengeance.

...he scowled at her...GLARED at her...lowered his voice and spat "HOW can you write a book like THIS about a SITTING PRESIDENT during a time of WAR?"

So yeah, the information's out there, but we're at war, so we shouldn;t say anything bad about the Bush family. Something like that.

11. I also remember quite clearly Matt Lauer asking members
of the Bin Laden family if they had been allowed to fly back to Saudi Arabia after the 9/11 attacks while all the American commercial airliners were grounded.

I remember thinking, "What kind of effed-up journalism is this? That's like asking a criminal whether or not he's guilty and then using his answer as evidence that either absolves or convicts him of the crime!"

17. I remember that Matt Lauer/Kitty Kelley interview...
...On the same show Matt Lauer interviewed Jeb Bush's ex-wife (a source for Kelley's book). The ex-wife was the one who told Kelley all about the Bush boys drug escapades back when Sr was president.

But when Jeb's ex was interviewed she said she was told not to speak about the past anymore. I though she seemed scared.

68. That's an understatement
Bush is in fact the ersatz leader sold to us by the 5 multinationals that own 99% of the major media. This from a DU post in 2002/2003:

And as for the damn liberal media:

There were exactly 704 stories in the campaign about (the) flap of Gore inventing the Internet. There were only 13 stories about Bush failing to show up for his National Guard duty for a year. There were well over 1,000 stories -- Nexus stopped at 1,000 -- about Gore and the Buddhist temple. Only 12 about Bush being accused of insider trading at Harken Energy. There were 347 about Al Gore wearing earth tones, but only 10 about the fact that Dick Cheney did business with Iran and Iraq and Libya.
The post was made by Crewleader who had a subscription to LexisNexus. I'd search for and cite the post if we weren't at defcon whatever (the advanced search function is shut off right now).

That was 2,051 anti-Gore articles vs. 35 anti-Bush during the 2000 election cycle. Hmmm. Of course, the Gore articles were primarily about fluff versus what, for the case of GWB and Cheney, any open mind would equate to "high crimes and misdemeanors". No wonder the vast casually minded center gave Bush enough votes to enable him to steal the Presidency! (Bring back the Fairness Doctrine, the Editorial Rule, and the Rule of Sevens!)

provide arms to the Iranians in return for their help in freeing hostages held in Lebanon and even possibly to delay the release of the diplomats in the Iranian embassy until after the November 1980 election that ushered in Reagan. (The latter in the interest of preventing an "October surprise" that would have helped Jimmy Carter's re-election efforts.)

So it's not only W's grandfater, it's W's father who has been busily appeasing anyone and everyone, including major players in the Axis of Evil.

The Bush family and appeasement go way, way back. They were busy appeasing enemies of the U.S. before Obama was even a glimmer in his parents' eyes. You might want to read up on your history.

Many, many republicans in Congress tried to keep this country out of the war in Europe. Roosevelt had his work cut out for him. In fact the Germans declared war on us first. Republicans liked the fascist Hitler and Mussolini because they were fighting communists. Republicans have a long history of backing fascist dictators. In Friggin fact, GHW Bush helped put Sadam Husein in power. The friggin repukes were happy while Husein was gasing Kurds and Iranians. Republicans beliefs of corporate control are fascist ideas.

Don't go around the world pandering to the religious right, nations' legislatures and other groups and slam other people by twisting their words when a member of YOUR OWN FAMILY was financing one of the biggest humanitarian atrocities in history.

But we don't hear about this stuff in the MSM. At least not when it can make an impact on Bush's presidential aspirations. We just hear about Democrats' land deals, speculate on whether they inhaled, distort their military service, and slam them when their minister makes emotional, controversial remarks.

...let me amend my ars longa post then and cut to the chase of GWB's crimes (hoping Clan Dyken appreciates the exposure -- on edit, see post 69):

So let me tell you a little story about junior Georgie
Ever since he stole the election he's been making history
When the planes into the buildings slammed he soon bombed Afghanistan
And his daddy and his buddies were getting fat on war money
He never once did slow he never once looked back
The whole world said NO! he said yes let's bomb Iraq
He had to cook up some fiction, sex up his diction,
keep the people scared for fear of weapons of mass destruction
He had to lie he had to spy he had to deny those who asked why
In the end he said "we're the super power we'll decide who'll die
Besides we got cash and weapons stacked up to the sky
We need to use 'em we need to lose 'em we need a war that's what they're for
Then he said he was talking directly to the big guy
He's got a hot line to the god mind and god said to the victor goes the spoils
And to the American corporations goes all the Iraqis oil
And by the way move over we'll take over if you please
Shucks, damn, we still didn't find any wmds
Flash to a picture of Rumsfield shaking hands with Saddam Hussein
They're setting 'em up and knocking them down and setting 'em right back up again
Talking tough on the terrorists when everybody knows ya
Daddy was running guns and drugs with the Ayatollah
And what ever really happened with Manuel Noriega
And Pinochet, we could go on all day about these guys that used to work for the CIA
Working to make the people of the world feel the way the people of the world feel today
And then junior Georgie bowed his head ... (see above)
Why you would want to waste pixels by taking a position (valid) about the slippery slope of blaming the scion of an evil family for the sins of the grandfather is beyond me. It's just not worth it, given the destruction and sins of GWB himself.

74. My family managed to ...............
Imprint their high moral ethical code on most of the family members for 2 1/2 centuries..........
It's what families USED to do, bring up their kids with a set of values. That's where the phrase "black sheep of the family" began, some kids are going to march to their own drummer no matter what!
I decided a few years back that this ethical code was more impediment in todays world than helpful. SO I made a conscious decision to set it aside in the interest of survival....................It didn't work! I am NOT prosperous today as a result and I wasn't happy either!
( I did survive, and I am following my designated path, which brings small rewards..............I've also influenced a lot of kids!)

15. It's not quite past tense
That's where a lot of the family wealth -- the wealth Bush himself enjoys -- comes from.

The Bushes managed a number of years ago to fight off a suit from Holocaust survivors (wonderful things happen in court when you're, like, the President...). If they had an ounce of ethics, they'd have compensated survivors, not pulled out all their influence and power to keep their ill gotten gain.

19. Forebears is not the same as grandfather
We're not talking about something that happened 300 years ago. When George W. was born, Prescott was still in the middle of making sure his Nazi-related investments in Union Banking were disencumbered from the Trading with the Enemy Act.

George H.W. Bush has been close friends with members of the Farish and du Pont families, which were deeply involved in supporting the Nazis and US fascists in the 30's and also in the plot against FDR. As late as 1988, his presidential campaign got into trouble for the number of refugee Eastern European fascists it was working with.

The ties are both deeper and more prolonged than just Prescott's business dealings in the 30's, and they continued all through W's youth and early adulthood.

21. Well, I wonder what George W. would be doing today
If his grandfather wasn't Prescott Bush, leaving a shitload of ill-gotten money to his progeny, would George W. be squatting in the White House and wrecking the country for his own personal enrichment? Probably not. Consider the case of another scion of a family that achieved wealth through dubious methods, like Ted Kennedy. Can you imagine Ted slouching in his chair at Yale, lecturing his professor on how lazy poor people are, as George W. did in his undergraduate days?

Certainly George W. isn't responsible for his grandfather's war profiteering and treasonous ways; but even a modicum of conscience might cause him to think twice about accusing other people of "appeasement" when his own family fortune was amassed the way it was.

Two huge family fortunes amassed through questionable means, be it trading with Nazis or moonshining, and two families that took two very different routes with that money. Sort of makes me not want to listen to the whining of the overrich about estate taxes, capital gains taxes, and so forth.

69. ars longa, vita brevis est

And then junior Georgie bowed his head and prayed for the Jewish souls that were lost
He said that we should never ever forget about the Nazi Holocaust
He said that guys like Hitler shouldn't get no more chances
I bet he hopes nobody checks into his Granddaddy's finances
You see making profit off of war is in the family
Prescott Bush in World War 2 was in thick with the Nazis
Using polish slaves from Auschwitz to make the Third Reich's steel
To make the guns and bombs and bullets the American boys would feel
Money money was made hand over fist
Bush was doing business with the fascists
Money money was made where did it go?
It's in the family coffers and it still does flow
Like the blood that was spilt from the people who were killed
And the voices of injustice that will never be stilled
Echoing down through history 'til it's in your living room
If the rat gets away with the cheese he's coming back real soon
We can talk and talk all day it really doesn't matter
What matters is the future and what they got on the platter
Exporting more fear and repression and high tech violence
We need some answers we need some justice
We need no more secrets and we need
No more silence
No more silence
No more silence
No more silence

83. His grandpa started the business
But George w is still running the same war profiteering family outfit. His grandpa discovered it. His father improved it (iran contra etc).

Now W runs it. He is not culpable because of what his grandpa did-he is culpable because he also works in the family war-starting-for- profit business.

He also bought everything he has ever purchased with the money his family has made on wars. And, when the Bushes hit the whitehouse, they were able to open a new division in the family business. The very profitable new "War Starting Division" of BushCo has moved the family from ruthlessly taking advantage of wars to actually controlling where and when wars occur. This new division also has access to the US treasury to pay for the custom made wars. It's a huge step forward for the family biz. Prescott had nothing, and everything, to do with it. He is gone, but the family has kept his business growing, through constant improvements.

This is not a slippery slope. It is an inherited family business.

Furthermore, it is important to understand the history of the firm, and get a sense of their preferred strategies, in order to predict what direction they might take in the future. This is why what the grandfather did is relevant today.

Bush is not primarily a president. That title is a function of his real job as CEO of a family company that utilizes war as a normal part of it's profit strategy. Little wonder that he sees only success in Iraq. His family is making a huge pile of money. That's why we went in. It has worked beautifully. No wonder he wants the war to go on and on. A primary goal must be to lock in these profits for the family shareholders when they no longer have direct control over the war starting mechanism. The "War Starting Division" is in danger of losing their advances in war-starting capabilities. Some binding agreement is needed to obligates the US to keep fighting in Iraq, long after GW steps down (maybe even a hundred years!). Or, perhaps another war could be started in the area...

So this really isn't about picking on some bloke for what his grandfather did. It's about an inherited family business that is trashing our country for war profits. So yes, (if you are really asking) I think your question may be a bit dense.

Plus, understand exactly how horrific and unforgivable an event we're talking about here: the man helped finance the Nazi Party.

It's 1939, your grampa gets drunk, hops in his Studebaker and plows over some little girl?* OK, that's awful, shame on him, hope he was punished, but that can't be held against you... unless you're, say, a lawyer who specializes in defending DUIs. That's sort of what we have here with the Bushes. Shrub may not be a carbon copy of Hitler, but he's the closest thing to a Nazi to ever reside in the White House.

(* Not saying your grampa actually did that, of course... just a hypothetical scenario.)

20. Futile search for high moral ground.
The Horrifying American Roots of Nazi Eugenics
By Edwin Black

Mr. Black is the author of IBM and the Holocaust and the just released War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America's Campaign to Create a Master Race, from which the following article is drawn.

Hitler and his henchmen victimized an entire continent and exterminated millions in his quest for a co-called "Master Race."

But the concept of a white, blond-haired, blue-eyed master Nordic race didn't originate with Hitler. The idea was created in the United States, and cultivated in California, decades before Hitler came to power. California eugenicists played an important, although little known, role in the American eugenics movement's campaign for ethnic cleansing.
<>
Only after eugenics became entrenched in the United States was the campaign transplanted into Germany, in no small measure through the efforts of California eugenicists, who published booklets idealizing sterilization and circulated them to German official and scientists.

Hitler studied American eugenics laws. He tried to legitimize his anti-Semitism by medicalizing it, and wrapping it in the more palatable pseudoscientific facade of eugenics. Hitler was able to recruit more followers among reasonable Germans by claiming that science was on his side. While Hitler's race hatred sprung from his own mind, the intellectual outlines of the eugenics Hitler adopted in 1924 were made in America.

During the '20s, Carnegie Institution eugenic scientists cultivated deep personal and professional relationships with Germany's fascist eugenicists. In Mein Kampf, published in 1924, Hitler quoted American eugenic ideology and openly displayed a thorough knowledge of American eugenics. "There is today one state," wrote Hitler, "in which at least weak beginnings toward a better conception are noticeable. Of course, it is not our model German Republic, but the United States."

Hitler proudly told his comrades just how closely he followed the progress of the American eugenics movement. "I have studied with great interest," he told a fellow Nazi, "the laws of several American states concerning prevention of reproduction by people whose progeny would, in all probability, be of no value or be injurious to the racial stock."

I remember when Democrats laughed at the idea of Dubya after his Daddy was such a miserable failure.

Jebbie will be billed as "the smart one" who will redeem the Bush legacy and "family honor." With a Mexican wife, he'll be deemed a rock-solid bet in the Hispanic community and his leadership in Florida will be presented as a model of "conserbatib valyoooz," what with him standing up for the "sank-titty of liiiiiife" for that poor, misunderstood genius Terri Schiavo.

And the American people, in their American Idol-watching millions, will nod their heads dutifully and say "uh-huh, uh-huh. 'Course he'd be an excellent preznit. Definitely."

Of course, my crystal ball also occasionally shows the triumphant arrival of the Titanic in New York Harbor and the election of Harold Stassen. Sometimes it even says "Answer Hazy: Ask Again Later."

After four years of a Democratic President, the first three at least
being in the depression inherited from Bush II, I bet that not only
will the "Republicans or Republican-voting independents" be in favour
of Bush III but some of the more right-wing "Democrats" will too.

Soon. Anybody want to take bets on when she will be kicked off the show or "resign"? I'm saying the middle of next week. I figure you've got to give the cable news pundits enough time to talk about it 24 hours a day for the next few days. After all, oil is still $20/barrel and there is no recession or economic slowdown or war to talk about.

surprised this story doesn't get more circulation. This country is now being ruled by a bunch of goddamn Nazis and the grandchildren of Nazis who have grown up with the noxious, misanthropic beliefs of their ancestors. If it were up to me, there would be no more enabling or silly debate about it. We would be doing to Bushco, and yes Georgie included, what we did to those guilty at Nuremberg; take the bastards out and hang them! Christ! I really don't see the problem! 117. Not news...
Edited on Tue May-20-08 11:47 PM by Baby Snooks
This is not news. And probably still won't be news. The media for some reason has always hesitated to pursue the matter even though it is established fact and much of the documenation is in the National Archives. The history of the Bushes was always right there for all to see. The media chose not to see it.

My question has always been how some in the Jewish community could support the Bushes. Is Israel really more important than the memory of millions who perished in the Holocaust? Their memory is the very foundation of Israel. The Bushes have sullied that memory. As have those who have supported them. Shame on them.

Prescott Bush should have been tried at Nuremberg. Those who really get into his collusion, and it was collusion, with Fritz Thyssen realize how complicit he was and can see how he intended to create a fascist state here as well. Which his grandson has. We are no longer a democracy.

But George W Bush didn't act alone. All eyes turn to Nancy Pelosi. The Empress. Serving her Emperor.

And then the eyes turn to the Clintons. I cannot think of anything worse than Hillary Clinton becoming president. Her husband sold out as did she. They are part of all of it. The dynasty. The oligarchy. The fascist state. The vision of Samuel Bush. The patriarch.

133. Added to the Nazi ties
-Operation Paperclip-we took in Nazi scientists that went to NASA, others worked to develop nuclear bombs, others went right into MKUltra. Other Nazis scientists had secretly developed antigravity flying saucers (when I link to this on youtube my computer acts as if it is haunted) which we also absorbed into our own shadow government technology. This was in the 1940's, right around the time of Prescott Bush dealings with the Nazis-- I wonder who pulled off this deal?
Nazi scientists who had sick agendas were absorbed into high positions of our government and no doubt influenced policy around these technologies.
Their twisted racist worldview was absorbed seamlessly into the military industrial complex, and we are now reaping the consequences 60 years later.

138. This is Just WRONG
I have never defended George W. Bush. But the actions of his grandfather are irrelevant. Bush holds no responsibility for anything his grandfather did. When people like Behar use the Nazi relationship as an issue for criticism of Bush, it devalues all of the legitimate criticism for the illegal and immoral acts he committed.

142. Is it wrong if
Is it wrong if George W. has never renounced his grandfather's actions, never tried to make reparations, never refused his monetary inheritance (blood money, some would say), continued to support his grandfather's and father's politics, and finally, completed his grandfather's coup. I think not! Had he disavowed his grandfather's actions, then perhaps this would be wrong, but until then, I think it's not only not wrong, it's absolutely right, and needs to see the light of day as often as possible if we are ever going to heal this country. And don't forget, those Bushco detention centers are just sitting there, waiting for anyone who displeases the dear leader!

assuming this country COULD be "healed," how would the Bush clan and their kind

We risk becoming the enemy we despise, where then does the answer lie?

159. Agreed -- my family has a dubious ancestor
My grandfather was a significant organized crime figure in a particularly bloody Chicago gang during and after Prohibition. Most of the family has gone to great lengths, making a conscious effort, to repudiate the acts of our disreputable ancestor. Unfortunately not all of us did so, and it is an entirely fair criticism of the two (now deceased) members of my extended family who went the other way, that they "took after" my grandfather, and perpetuated his misdeeds.

George is Prescott's progeny, in more ways than by their respective positions on the family tree.

143. Fascism -- Bushcheneyism -- Monarchism -- Theocracy -- It's All The Same Thing.
A belief that some minority has the right to rule the majority. It matters little if it's the true believers, a master race, a family dynasty, the chosen people, a ruling class, or the current DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy.

The ideology doesn't just disappear because we dropped some bombs or some years have passed. Particularly within the confines of a single, pseudo-aristocratic family.

Yes, it's all the same thing. Like "Unitary Executive Rule By Signing Statement" -- it's all anti-democratic, thus Anti-American.

What? You were expecting goose-stepping?

"anti-democratic, thus Anti-American"
WTF! Democracies are egalitarian, Amerika rests on a bedrock of genocide, millions of slaves both red and black slaughtered that their wealth might be stolen to build The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. BULLSHIT!

Amerika is a profit driven culture, the tragedy of the commons has been brought about not by sheer numbers but by a very small percentage driven to accumulate grossly excessive amounts of wealth.
