Gore wins $1 million prize from Israeli group
Source: Associated Press

Al Gore received a $1 million prize on Monday for his environmental work from an Israeli fund.

The Dan David Foundation awarded the former vice president its annual "present" prize for alerting the world to the crisis from the overuse of fossil fuels. It also gave prizes in "past" and "future" categories.

The Nobel laureate received the award at a ceremony at Tel Aviv University.

In his address, Gore said, "We do face a planetary emergency. The phrase sounds shrill to many, but it is unfortunately quite accurate."

6. Your statement is really hate-full... as in increasing hate in our world.
I don't hate the U.S. -- I hate the way we use our military in ways that cause far more problems than it could ever solve.
Ditto Israel.

Your conflating distaste at a particular government's policies as being the same thing as hatred for an entire nation is exactly the sort of simplistic thinking at which the Republicans excel and exactly the same sort of technique that has been used to create a social environment in which thoughtful critiques are the same as treason.

7. I don't hate Israel.
But there's a reason that certain posts are swept into the Israel/Palestine forum.

I don't participate in those threads. But I know what I see at DU and other liberal forums.

Mention Israel and people go nuts.

Actually, my response was mostly a joke. Guess should have added a :+ to the  .

8. Your statement implies that most people at DU hate Isreal - and that is bull.
I did not, for a moment, interpret your post as indicating that you hated Israel, I interpreted it as your saying that DUers who criticize Israeli government policies hate the entire nation of Israel -- which is rightwing talkng point bull crap.

This isn't a joking issue - not in the slightest.

Unfortunately, I think your subthread makes it likely that this thread will be swept into the Israel/Palestine forum when the thread should be about AL.

:(

9. Indeed Al is to be congratulated!
And I don't disagree with the poster that you have been responding to. There are more than a few people on here who bash Israel for everything it does, and never take issue with its antagonists. I can't wait to see this thread devolve. When you can't cry... laugh.

11. The Likudniks are just a tiny minority of the population. I don't like them, they are nuts.
They didn't give Al Gore his prize.

20. I don't hate Israel, many people there hate their governments actions against
Palestine. Carter went and with more support indicated by the polls taken within Israel, to negotiate with Hamas. Too many American's are not aware of this since the MSM almost never speaks about it.

21. It's for environmental work, not for supporting a RW Israeli agenda.
I don't hate Israel, but I oppose a lot of its policies and political leaders.)

12. Alright Al - Alright Israel
Bush goes there and disparages Obama and the Democrats from foreign soil - Gore goes there and receives a million bucks in an environmental prize. Big difference, eh?

17. Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term (Gore ? )
Source: The Jeruselum Post

The official claimed that a senior member of the president's entourage said during a closed meeting that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were of the opinion that military action was called for.

However, the official continued, "the hesitancy of Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice" was preventing the administration from deciding to launch such an attack on the Islamic Republic.
