Rove refuses call to testify under oath
Source: AP

WASHINGTON -- A House Judiciary Committee deadline passed Monday with former White House adviser Karl Rove standing by his refusal to testify about allegations that he pushed the Justice Department to prosecute former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman.

In his latest offer to settle the matter, Rove sent the panel a letter offering to respond to questions in writing, according to his attorney. But he reiterated that he would not testify publicly and under oath.

Committee leaders did not immediately answer questions about how they will respond. Earlier this month, they threatened to subpoena Rove if he did not agree to appear voluntarily by Monday.

The dispute is the latest in a standoff between President Bush and Congress over testimony from current and former White House staffers on a variety of issues.

The White House has balked at requests for staff testimony, arguing that the administration has no obligation to respond to congressional demands for the details of internal deliberations.

Doesn't Congress have some law enforcement? Sgt at Arms and such?
Send them out to drag his sorry ass out from under his rock! And shall we take bets on whether, once news gets out that it WILL happen, he suddenly 'suicides' like the unfortunate working girl executive who knew too much?

12. Yes, but Congress won't use it. They make deals, instead.
Congress has obligations to their campaign contributors, FIRST. If Bush vetos, then Congress members won't be trusted to follow through with those promises. They risk losing future donations.

None of this is going to change...and we will drift further away from being a Republic if we do not reform campaign finance. But we knew this years ago.

I would go further to say that we really are looking at a ONE PARTY SYSTEM and ONE BRANCH of the US GOVERNMENT.

1. In short Rove is saying
that he will come and have a nice chat with Congress if and only if there is no record and Congress first grants him a license to lie.

Why not, Congress did it for Bush and Cheney.

Predictably enough, Bush and Cheney lied.

34. In short, Rove is saying that he is afraid of testifying before
Congress because he fears he will get caught in his lies if he has to answer immediately to the questions. He wants written questions so that his attorney can write the responses. No, no, no, no, no.

If Rove is innocent, he has nothing to fear. Isn't that what the government tells us about their reading our e-mails and listening to our telephone calls?

8. Perhaps a little dunk in some water?
I know John Yoo, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld find that little dunk a very effective way to get people to cooperate. I also hear it's perfectly legal according to the shrubbo Justice Department so Congress may as well adopt it as a way to ensure cooperation from administrations cocksuckers like Rove.

:sarcasm:

Unless the Dems are willing to hold him in contempt and let him rot in jail for a few years - or - until he testifies under oath, Nothing will happen.

Rove has Pelosi, Reid, Conyers and ALL DEMOCRATS by the BALLS. It's easy to do with cowards.

20. Exactly! We've already seen this current cast of nasty players
before in our government. Half of them we thought we'd run out of public life. BUT NO, we let 'em slink out and find nice cozy rocks to hide under. Just until the right time for them to come back and make it very very apparent that we should have put them all down a deep, dark hole the first time around.

They are just running out the clock until Bush Junior leaves office or, if necessary, pardons them.

is why I am so upset that impeachment was taken OFF the table. By doing so, we foster the notion that these folks are above the law. If Nixon had been impeached....we wouldn't be putting up with this shit today. And by not impeaching Bush-the next time around will be even worse!!!!!!! I am going to journal this so I can tell folks "I told you so" when this happens again. Even if the DEMs get a wider margin this time around-I hope that we will show some of our 'leaders' the way to the exits.

46. More political posturing and game-playing to keep people upset
The Dems are playing games, making sure this keeps bubbling along so that it's visible toward the election. That's all they and the GOP care about, the election. If the Dems cared about the law or our wellbeing, they'd have begun impeachment and/or indictments of all BushCo villains in Jan 2007 and everything would already be done and dusted. But that wouldn't suit their political need for wedge issues that can be kept bubbling on the stove, so instead we get this step-this-way-step-that-way-twirl-around-bow-to-your-partner routine and letters that tell us how dastardly the GOP is, that they refused, actually refused polite Dem invitations to stick their heads into nooses, and so we should please send lots of money to let the GOP know how much we hate them for it. And the GOP sends letters saying their supporters should send money to let the Dems know how much they're hated for even offering the Roves the chance to perjure themselves.

I find it disgusting.
