Clark accuses Cheney of putting politics before security

WASHINGTON - Former Gen. Wesley Clark on Sunday accused Vice President Dick Cheney of "playing politics with national security" for his recent comments on a leaked, classified intelligence report.

Clark, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, has called for a White House investigation into statements Cheney made to Denver's Rocky Mountain News in which he called a magazine article based on leaked intelligence reports the "best source of information" on an alleged link between the former Iraqi regime and al Qaeda.

Last year the Pentagon questioned conclusions in the magazine article and said that leaks of classified intelligence reports were "deplorable and may be illegal."

The controversy was first outlined Friday in The Washington Post. Last year, citing confidential sources, the newspaper reported that CIA officials and congressional leaders were considering an investigation into the source of the intelligence leak.

1. Is it me, or is Clark the only candidate with guts
these days. Everyone else is focused on process and image and soft messages (positive AND uplifting!) and Clark keeps firing away. Pretty damn good, for a Republican.

3. Independent, then Democrat
Clark was never a registered Republican. He was an Independent. In the past he boted for some repubs, but for the last 11 years his last vote was Democratic. He just registered as a Democrat of late.

It's not you....Clark is ythe only candidate with the guts....he is a general and does not take crap from anyone! Even Kerry is stills aying Bush was right to deal with Sadaam for our national security...what national security threat was sadaam to us or anyone in his region? He was basically the mayor of baghdad with a couple of water guns....

10. Clark is doing an important job
by pummeling the administration. I don't think he has a realistic
chance of winning the nomination at this time, but he is playing
his part in the downfall of bush*.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the Kerry administration.

5. must smell blood....
Much like a pack of junk yard dogs, the democratic candidates appear to smell blood. The more they focus on the bush team the more the public admits they are sick of the "all war-all the time" situation Americans must now endure. Most Americans want to get back to enjoying life again and they know they can't do that as long as the bush team is in control. Once the public starts looking at the real probability of a democrat taking over, they will pay closer attention to which democrat they want.

6. Clark spoils the Chimps trainer.
He's the only candidate with vast contacts inside the pentagon. He knows how and when to expose untold truths. I think everyone ought to embrace the idea of him as a "former" Republican. This can only bring More centrist Repubs to the ABB fold. Many of us once voted for Reagan. It's time we nurture those on the political fence to vote Dem, like Clark has. I already know 2 Repubs that have had a change of heart against Bush and it's because of Clark. They respect him because of his ability to lead and value his opinion more than Bush by default of his service.

8. I am a lifelong Democrat
but my husband of 15 years was a Republican when I met him. I persuaded him to go independent for a while. Last year he registered as a Democrat.

Obviously, I think it's possible for people to learn from their mistakes!

12. I too am a lifelong Democrat ....
and after all these years, I too am finally married to a Democrat! Mine has always pro-actively refused to register and vote. It took bush with arnie as the last straw for him to register and vote.

9. Clark has been pretty gutsy.
Rather than becoming more cautious after getting setup and ridiculed related to his not rebuking Moore for his AWOL comments - he is still hitting the administration hard.

While I am still undecided... the general keeps growing on me.

11. Progress in media - Clark isn't "bashing" - he's just "accusing".
Usually Democrats are either "complaining" or "bashing", according to the right wing media.
