Indianapolis Star Endorses Clinton
Source: Indianapolis Star - Indystar.com

Experience makes Clinton better choice in primary

In this extraordinary election year, Indiana's Democratic voters have been presented with an extraordinary opportunity: Choose for their party's presidential nominee between a gifted senator from Illinois who has enthused millions of new voters and an equally talented senator from New York with years of high-level experience.

Yet, one thing is clear: The next commander in chief will take office at a time of extraordinary risk for this nation, both at home and abroad. The challenges -- including those posed by a sagging economy, rising energy and food costs, the gap in health care, wars in two countries and threats from Iran -- are complex.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton is the better choice, based on her experience and grasp of major issues, to confront those challenges. She earns The Star's endorsement in Tuesday's primary.

1. "Years of High-level experience"--are they talking about her combat experience
in Bosnia, or her receipt of a silver teapot gift in Northern Ireland?

8. So the Star
is taking the Limbaugh strategy. Not surprised. A right wing rag in a red state.

9. Endorsements
I don't think newspaper endorsements mean squat. In fact they might be the kiss of death. Here in PA I think every major newspaper endorsed Obama including the Scranton Times (supposedly Hillarys homestown) and it didn't do anything for Obama.

No surprises here. I would have been shocked if they had endorsed Obama.

13. The Star is no longer a "right-wing" rag ...
While it is true that until recently the Indianapolis Star was owned by Dan Quayle's family, it is now owned by Gannett. FYI, it is not the total right-wing trumpet it once was.

Depending how you feel about Gannett, this knowledge may or may not be of comfort.

:)

10. Will they endorse McSame in the GE though?
If so, their motives here are suspect to say the least.

I know you your side like deflection but... It's Obama that more more like Mcain. Better luck next time.

I guess that I too would have been surprised if they endorsed Obama (although he has apparently been pretty successful in tapping into moderates and independents in "red states") but I find it kind of weird that they are bothering to actually endorse anybody for the Democratic primary given the right-wing and staunchly pro-GOP "tilt" of the paper in general (and its readers) not to mention the extreme antipathy that the editors (at least the previous ones) and the paper in general had for Bill & Hilliary Clinton during his presidency. It's kind of like asking a hard-core GOP strategist like Karl Rove his opinion about the Democratic primary. It's just.....wierd. Of course, Hilliary has, unfortunately, been sounding increasingly right wing-ish pretty much ever since she started campaigning for the presidency so maybe they don't feel quite so threatened politically by her anymore (which may not be a particularly good thing for the rest of us IMHO). They certainly seem to have a thing about her "experience", which is true in terms of the length of time that she has been involved in politics and serving in the Senate but it's not like Obama hasn't already been involved in politics and won't have talented people around him to help him with some of the more complex issues. GWB, for those who forget, had only been a failed congressional candidate and governor of Texas for 1 and a half terms before he was (s)elected as POTUS and nobody, at least in the media, really had a problem with that even though he flopped horribly during debates with Al Gore and Obama is clearly far more intellectual than Bush. And unlike GWB, I believe that Obama would actually "listen" or at least take into consideration what his advisers and other "experts" tell him when formulating policy decisions should he become POTUS. I believe that Hilliary, like Bill, probably will do the same but I'm not really that worried about Obama's "inexperience" and believe him to be capable of handling the job just fine if he actually gets the opportunity to do so. At the very least, he certainly can't do worse than GWB and I have no doubt that he will be a MUCH better (and legitimate) POTUS.

21. Don't tell the Hillarians that
they think all these endorsements from Mellon Scaife, Fox News, Limpballs, and every other "American" who tortured her and Bill for 8 years are just great. And I thought delusion was the sole domain of Limbeciles.

16. Obama can't get a break in Indiana
When the Supreme Court ruled that the Indiana Voter ID law was constitutional just 9 days before the Indiana Primary elections it pretty much guaranteed a Clinton win in Indiana. I’d also bet money that the Star will endorse McCain come November.

I wonder if the Star will endorse anyone in the 5th Congressional race on the republican ticket.
