Interiors supplier strike curbs GM production

DETROIT, April 16 - A United Auto Workers strike at Alliance Interiors has disrupted mid-size crossover production at General Motors Corp's (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) Lansing Delta Township assembly plant, a GM spokesman said on Wednesday.

Crossovers are a key segment of the U.S. auto market as high fuel prices have hit sales of larger sports utility vehicles.

About 90 UAW workers went on strike at Alliance in Lansing, Michigan on Tuesday night, UAW Local 724 President Dean Poggiali said. The UAW has been negotiating a contract with Alliance since May 2007, he said.

"That process has been unsuccessful, so we decided that it is time now to walk out," Poggiali said.
