Orlando SentinelTwo state senators propose a couple of ways out of Florida's primary-vote problem.A pair of state senators Wednesday unveiled another plan for giving Florida Democrats a voice in choosing a presidential nominee now that a redo of the Jan. 29 primary has been declared dead.
Senate Minority Leader Steve Geller, D- Cooper City, and Sen. Jeremy Ring, D- Margate, say that one-half of Florida's 185 pledged delegates could be seated based on results of the January vote, won by Hillary Clinton by a 17 percentage-point margin.
The remaining 50 percent could be allocated in proportion to the total popular vote Clinton and Barack Obama receive nationally, excluding Florida and Michigan, which also was stripped of its delegates for holding an early primary.
Another possibility would be a proportionate split based on total delegate counts earned nationally.
Geller and Ring want the Clinton and Obama campaigns to seek approval of the proposal by the Democratic National Committee.
