(FL) Two state senators float compromise to count Dems' primary votes
Source: Orlando Sentinel

Two state senators propose a couple of ways out of Florida's primary-vote problem.

A pair of state senators Wednesday unveiled another plan for giving Florida Democrats a voice in choosing a presidential nominee now that a redo of the Jan. 29 primary has been declared dead.

Senate Minority Leader Steve Geller, D- Cooper City, and Sen. Jeremy Ring, D- Margate, say that one-half of Florida's 185 pledged delegates could be seated based on results of the January vote, won by Hillary Clinton by a 17 percentage-point margin.

The remaining 50 percent could be allocated in proportion to the total popular vote Clinton and Barack Obama receive nationally, excluding Florida and Michigan, which also was stripped of its delegates for holding an early primary.

Another possibility would be a proportionate split based on total delegate counts earned nationally.

Geller and Ring want the Clinton and Obama campaigns to seek approval of the proposal by the Democratic National Committee.

It continues .. "Florida U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson is floating a similar idea to effectively reduce Florida's delegate vote by half."

So ... Florida's Dem Party leaders are now willing to accept seating "half" their delegates?

1. I believe that's what the GOP did as well
They only counted half of Florida's delegates.

2. It is what the GOP did, cut them in half
Not the greatest idea, but reduced voter representation is better than none at all.

3. Wait a minute. What compromise?
50% based on the primary that candidates agreed not to campaign in. Plus 50% based on national vote total less FL & MI. Sounds like 100% to me.

From the article: "This plan gives us a light at the end of a very dark tunnel," Geller said.

And who made that very dark tunnel? Time for Geller and his friends to look in the mirror.

4. half, as long as it's Hillary's half.
Florida - you disenfranchised your own voters. Hang your heads in shame and don't be so ass-stupid in 2012. No fucking way Hillary gets half of the delegates from a state that knew damn well it would seat no delegates prior to the faulty "primary." The state knew it, Hillary knew it. No backsies on this one. Learn the rules.

6. Yeah, let's act just like Repugs
and disenfranchise VOTERS. Who gives a F* what the FL and MI politicians did, it's the people of those states that are being disenfranchised. I want my, my family's and my friends votes to count. All you Obama supporters who want to disenfranchise us, don't complain when FL and MI go Repub. and don't complain when McCain wins. I'd never vote for him and will vote for whoever the Dem is, but I know many people who are willing to sit this out to send a message that they are VERY UNHAPPY with Obama and the Dems for fostering this stupid mess.

8. Obama didn't disenfranchise anyone. Hell, no one's been disenfranchised.

You do NOT have the RIGHT to vote in a PRIMARY election. Legal precedent backs up this fact.

Obama DID NOT FOSTER THIS. That is a blatant untruth. Get pissed at the people who actually did this - the FL repubs and Dems who agreed to break the rules.
