Immigration officer gets 1 year for harboring woman
Source: The Examiner

Mar 8, 2008 3:00 AM (4 hrs ago) by Scott McCabe

... Miner, 49, a federal law enforcement officer for 20 years, helped his girlfriend obtain fake identification documents to hide her illegal-alien status, authorities said. He was convicted in December ...

Miner met his girlfriend, Tsomorlig Batjargal, 21, a native of Mongolia, in 2005. He provided her with a black convertible with a Fraternal Order of Police license plates, and let her live in his residence for more than a year, authorities said ...

Ex-Official at Immigration Agency Guilty of Harboring Illegal Resident

By Jerry Markon
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, December 19, 2007; Page B01

... Miner's attorney, John Gullette, said he was surprised by the verdict. "He just thought she was just a student and had visa problems, but he had no idea he was committing a crime by allowing this girl he fell in love with to live with him," Gullette said ...

The woman, Tsomorlig Batjargal, 21, was convicted of immigration fraud for obtaining a driver's license in Washington state when Virginia would not renew hers because she was not a legal resident. Prosecutors said she came to the United States legally but overstayed her student visa starting in 2004. She and Miner met at a social club in the District.

Prosecutors said Miner, who is divorcing his wife, got Batjargal a gym membership, paid her cellphone bill and other expenses and tried to start her up in a janitorial business, according to testimony at the trial ...

Gullette said Miner and Batjargal are engaged, but the relationship might end if she is deported ...

This case provides a splendid metaphor for the workings of the US immigration system: ya gotta let em screw ya so ya ain't deported. Companies want draconian punishments directed against undocumented workers because under constant threat the workers will be docile and wil work for low wages

1. 49 year old guy, 21 year old girl, and he was thinking what?
He just wanted to help the poor little thing?

Did he help her husband too? No just her?

No disgusting motive there.

The relationship MIGHT end if she is deported? You bet she'll end it. And he'll then say what to the ex?

This guy is a creep and gets :nopity: :nopity: from me.

And she sound like an opportunist.

The wife I feel bad for. Take all his money.

2. I don't feel sorry for her or him
He was just an old pervert, and she was a petty crook looking for a sugar daddy.
