McNamee's lawyer predicts Clemens pardon
Source: AP

One of Brian McNamee's lawyers predicted that Roger Clemens will be pardoned by President Bush, saying some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitcher's friendship with the Bush family.

~snip~

"It would be the easiest thing in the world for George W. Bush given the corrupt proclivities of his administration to say Roger Clemens is an American hero, Roger Clemens helped children," Emery said in a telephone interview. "It's my belief they have some reason to believe they can get a pardon."

During Wednesday's session before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Clemens repeated his denials under oath, which could lead to criminal charges if federal prosecutors conclude he made false statements or obstructed Congress.

"I'm not aware of Mr. Clemens having been charged with anything," White House deputy press secretary Tony Fratto said after being told of Emery's remarks.

1. I sure was nice to finally know why this issue was such an important matter...
to our Congress. Mr. Clemens is a good friend to the Bush family.... hmmm It seems to me it is about time we all realized that our Congress is absolutely useless and is in the hands totally of the WH...

6. He's one of the Bush Bubbas
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 03:13 PM by Baby Snooks
The Bush Bubbas like to sit around with each other. Drinking their beer. And shooting the bull. And in this case, shooting up the HGH. Maybe that's what George W Bush is on. Listening to the ramblign dribble of Roger Clemens, it makes sense. Apparently HGH makes you look good, feel good, and wipes out your brain cells.

Next question to be asked of the presidential candidates is whether they will pardon the growing number of sports heroes on drugs. And while we're at it, the growing number of sports heroes who raise pit bulls for fighting. Actually, maybe we should ask whether they would be willing to just ban sports in this country since sports apparently has produced a society in which anything goes. Remember OJ.

3. I'd almost bet on it
I don't know Clemens political affiliation but after watching and listening to him in action at the hearing yesterday I'm positive he's a republican.

8. DOJ Grand Jury leaked info on BLACK Bonds to start rumors that lead his indictment
on drugs/perjury charges and now we are getting this big sympathy/pardon sob story about Clements?

Gimme a break!

And Bonds is a Republican, too.

I always knew it was because Bonds was a Black man who dared to be (another) Black man to break Babe Ruth's record.

9. It won't matter much if he's pardoned.
He will NEVER make it into Baseball's hall of fame now...and that will really sting him!

11. If they are going to prosecute Bonds, they need to prosecute Clemens for perjury, too.
Exact same crime. And in Bonds case, there never would have been a perjury conviction if someone within the federal Department of Justice had not decided to leak his confidential Grand Jury testimony to a pair of San Fransisco Chronicle reporters so that they could write a book about it in which they made a case that he should be indicted, which the federal prosecutor could then turn around and cite as compelling evidence that there was "massive public support" for a prosecution for perjury.

Bonds was set up in a perjury trap just like the one they used on Bill Clinton, because at the time (and now) the DOJ is prosecuting prominent African-Americans (look at Wesley-Snipes. How many rich white men get prosecuted for not paying their taxes these days? Look at how the feds took over the dog fighting case.)

If the feds do not go after Clemens as aggressively as they went after Bonds, it is a sure sign of racial bias. Bonds had just as much reason to believe that his "secret" grand jury testimony would not remain secret under the Bush DOJ as Clemens did speaking to Congress and Clinton had speaking to the Starr grand jury.

12. Yes, no charges. Just a distraction for the masses to mitigate
the highly unconstitutional activities being discussed in Congress this week. If somehow it did happen, I'd love to see his plaque that says He Lied to Congress, But Was Pardoned right after all his Cy Youngs, ERA, etc.

13. McNamee's Lawyer: Bush would Pardon Clemens
Source: USA Today

Roger Clemens could receive a pardon from President Bush if the seven-time Cy Young Award winner is ever pursued for lying to federal officials, a lawyer for Clemens' accuser said Thursday.
In the latest accusation of partisanship after Wednesday's congressional hearing pitting Clemens against the trainer who says he injected him with performance-enhancing drugs, Richard Emery says President Bush could side with Clemens.

"It would be a prospective pardon," Emery, one of the lawyers for Clemens accuser Brian McNamee, said Thursday. "They're perfectly legal and it would be typical of the George Bush White House. We'd expect Bush to call Clemens a 'historic figure' who has done so much for this country and then let him off."

Clemens is a close friend of the first President Bush, even building a horseshoe pit at his Texas home at the suggestion of the former president. But even if he has a relationship with the family, that doesn't guarantee Clemens would get off the hook.

17. So This Is Some Set Up So Bush Can Look Compassionate?
Is this why Congress is wasting so much time and space and energy on steroids-so the Decider can be seen to do something that Joe Sixpack might (although I doubt it) approve of?

This is way beyond Monty Python, this.
