Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks Rock The Vote
Chicks Honored At Awards

By Dean Cameron

BURBANK, CA Friday 1.16.2004 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Rock The Vote, a movement begun by the late Patrick Lippert, will honor The Dixie Chicks for "their enduring commitment to preserving and protecting freedom of expression" this February 7th in Hollywood. Following the controversy that surrounded them last March, the Dixie Chicks partnered with Rock the Vote in July 2003 and launched Chicks Rock, Chicks Vote, an initiative to engage and empower young women to become active in the political process by voting.

Sheryl Crow will join N*E*R*D and the Black Eyed Peas as performers at the show, which will be held at the world famous Hollywood Palladium.

Rock The Vote exhorts MTV watchers to register to vote, though, looking at the list of past and current performers and honorees, one can be pretty sure where the majority of votes are aimed.

Previous Rock the Vote honorees include: Neil Young, Wyclef Jean, Sting, Bono, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow, Beastie Boys, Peter Gabriel, President Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Aaron Sorkin.

10. Willie Did
What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth

"There's so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth"

"We believe everything that they tell us
They're gonna’ kill us
So we gotta’ kill them first
But I remember a commandment
"Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier’s life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth"

(Bridge)

And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth"

"So I guess it’s just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let’s just kill em’ all and let God sort em’ out
Is this what God wants us to do"

(Repeat Bridge)

"And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth"

"Now you probably won’t hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there’s a time, and if you’re ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker’s word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth"

"But don’t confuse caring for weakness
You can’t put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free"

(Bridge)

"And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth"

But Sheryl Crowe rocks as a singer, song writer AND producer.

(I am willing to overlook the fact she was once a backup vocalist for Michael Jackson.)

Madonna emailed me an told me to vote for Clark. I wonder who Sheryl will campaign for? (no, not Lieberman, no....)

11. Years and years ago
When I worked in a children's hospital, Sheryl Crow was in town for a concert. She stopped by the hospital and put on a concert in the lobby for the kids. When she found out that some kids couldn't see her because they were in isolation and couldn't go to the lobby, she came to the floor and talked with each kid through the glass, signed autograph pics etc. She was great. She made those kids feels really special. I've been a fan since.
